| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Raymond "Doc" Drebes, who passed away on |
| 4 | | September 17, 2015; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Raymond Drebes was born on August 12, 1923 in |
| 6 | | Chicago; his parents were Paul G. and Mary Helen Luer Drebes; |
| 7 | | he married Elvira Wiese in 1945; she preceded him in death; he |
| 8 | | married Linda Irle Dively on June 13, 1987; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Raymond Drebes graduated from New Trier High |
| 10 | | School in Indian Hills in 1941; he subsequently attended |
| 11 | | Northwestern University from 1941 to 1942 before entering the |
| 12 | | service; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Raymond Drebes served in the United States Army |
| 14 | | from 1942 to 1945, starting in the Western Defense Command |
| 15 | | Headquarters under Gen. Delos C. Emmons in a top-secret records |
| 16 | | room at the Presidio in San Francisco, California; he |
| 17 | | eventually volunteered for overseas duty, where he served with |
| 18 | | the 4th Infantry Division under Gen. George Patton in the |
| 19 | | European theatre; during the Battle of the Bulge, he received 3 |
| 20 | | gunshot wounds, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart; |
| 21 | | after 9 months of hospitalization, he was honorably discharged; |
| 22 | | and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, After returning from the service, Raymond Drebes |
| 2 | | re-entered college at the University of Iowa, where he earned |
| 3 | | his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1950 and his dental degree in |
| 4 | | 1951; he then returned to Northwestern University, where he |
| 5 | | received his Master of Science degree in dentistry in 1952; he |
| 6 | | taught in the oral surgery department at Northwestern |
| 7 | | University for a year before moving to Champaign, where he |
| 8 | | practiced general dentistry for 40 years; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Raymond Drebes was active in the Illini District |
| 10 | | Dental Society, serving in all of the offices, and was elected |
| 11 | | to the Pierre Fauchard Academy; he was also a member of the |
| 12 | | Holy Cross Catholic Church in Champaign under the pastorate of |
| 13 | | Father Richard Mullen; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Raymond Drebes was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed |
| 15 | | gardening, photography, and hiking the Rocky Mountains with his |
| 16 | | wife; he also enjoyed hiking the neighborhood with his dog, |
| 17 | | Buster, in his later years; and |
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Raymond Drebes was preceded in death by his first |
| 19 | | wife, Elvira; his parents; and his half-brother; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Raymond Drebes is survived by his wife, Linda; his |
| 21 | | daughters, Elizabeth Carver and Barbara Drebes; his sons, Scott |

| 1 | | (Patti) Drebes and Douglas Drebes; his stepdaughter, Whitney |
| 2 | | Dively; his stepson, Mason Dively; his 7 grandchildren; and his |
| 3 | | 3 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
|
| 4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
| 5 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his |
| 6 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Raymond "Doc" Drebes; |
| 7 | | and be it further
|
| 8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 9 | | presented to the family of Raymond Drebes as an expression of |
| 10 | | our sympathy.
