SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Raymond "Doc" Drebes, who passed away on
4September 17, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Raymond Drebes was born on August 12, 1923 in
6Chicago; his parents were Paul G. and Mary Helen Luer Drebes;
7he married Elvira Wiese in 1945; she preceded him in death; he
8married Linda Irle Dively on June 13, 1987; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Raymond Drebes graduated from New Trier High
10School in Indian Hills in 1941; he subsequently attended
11Northwestern University from 1941 to 1942 before entering the
12service; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Raymond Drebes served in the United States Army
14from 1942 to 1945, starting in the Western Defense Command
15Headquarters under Gen. Delos C. Emmons in a top-secret records
16room at the Presidio in San Francisco, California; he
17eventually volunteered for overseas duty, where he served with
18the 4th Infantry Division under Gen. George Patton in the
19European theatre; during the Battle of the Bulge, he received 3
20gunshot wounds, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart;
21after 9 months of hospitalization, he was honorably discharged;

1    WHEREAS, After returning from the service, Raymond Drebes
2re-entered college at the University of Iowa, where he earned
3his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1950 and his dental degree in
41951; he then returned to Northwestern University, where he
5received his Master of Science degree in dentistry in 1952; he
6taught in the oral surgery department at Northwestern
7University for a year before moving to Champaign, where he
8practiced general dentistry for 40 years; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Raymond Drebes was active in the Illini District
10Dental Society, serving in all of the offices, and was elected
11to the Pierre Fauchard Academy; he was also a member of the
12Holy Cross Catholic Church in Champaign under the pastorate of
13Father Richard Mullen; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Raymond Drebes was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed
15gardening, photography, and hiking the Rocky Mountains with his
16wife; he also enjoyed hiking the neighborhood with his dog,
17Buster, in his later years; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Raymond Drebes was preceded in death by his first
19wife, Elvira; his parents; and his half-brother; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Raymond Drebes is survived by his wife, Linda; his
21daughters, Elizabeth Carver and Barbara Drebes; his sons, Scott

1(Patti) Drebes and Douglas Drebes; his stepdaughter, Whitney
2Dively; his stepson, Mason Dively; his 7 grandchildren; and his
33 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
6family and friends, mourn the passing of Raymond "Doc" Drebes;
7and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Raymond Drebes as an expression of
10our sympathy.
