SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Charles Pressman of Lake Forest,
4previously of Highland Park and Wilmette, who passed away on
5October 2, 2015; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Charles Pressman was born in New York City and
7raised in Poughkeepsie, New York; he was President of his high
8school class and attended private college on the East Coast for
92 years before enlisting in the military to decipher enemy
10codes during World War II; he attended the University of
11Chicago on the GI Bill, earning a bachelor's degree in
12philosophy; he graduated from the University of Chicago Law
13School in 1951; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Charles Pressman co-founded Pressman & Hartunian,
15a Chicago law firm that specialized in consumer fraud,
16employment discrimination, and civil rights violation cases;
17during the 1950s and 60s, he was Director of the Chicago
18chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union; in 1982, he left
19his law firm, but continued to work on cases privately; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Charles Pressman is survived by his wife, Joan;
21his son, Michael; his daughter, Sarah Lovinger; his stepson,
22Steve Weinger; his 2 stepdaughters, Lauren Weinger and Nancy

1Weinger; his sister, Helen Rausch; his granddaughter; and his 3
2step-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5Charles Pressman, and extend our sincere condolences to his
6family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
7further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Charles Pressman as an expression of
10our deepest sympathy.
