2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Richard "Butch" Dobbs of Joliet, who |
4 | | passed away on November 22, 2015; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Richard Dobbs graduated from Joliet Township High |
6 | | School (JTHS) in 1955, where he was a multi-sport athlete; he |
7 | | attended Colorado University his freshman year on a football |
8 | | scholarship; he left Boulder for the United States Marine Corps |
9 | | and then returned to Joliet Junior College to resume his |
10 | | education; he attended Illinois State University and completed |
11 | | his Bachelor of Arts in Education and his Master of Science in |
12 | | Counseling and Guidance; 5 years later, he moved his family to |
13 | | Bloomington, Indiana, where he received a doctorate degree in |
14 | | counseling psychology from Indiana University; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Richard Dobbs spent his career working as a |
16 | | psychologist; he was in private practice for over 25 years and |
17 | | then returned to JTHS as a guidance counselor for 10 years |
18 | | before retiring; he demonstrated commitment to his community |
19 | | through countless volunteer services and particularly enjoyed |
20 | | coaching youth sports; and

21 | | WHEREAS, Richard Dobbs was a voracious reader and one of |
22 | | his favorite places was the Joliet Public Library; he was |
