SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Richard "Butch" Dobbs of Joliet, who
4passed away on November 22, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Richard Dobbs graduated from Joliet Township High
6School (JTHS) in 1955, where he was a multi-sport athlete; he
7attended Colorado University his freshman year on a football
8scholarship; he left Boulder for the United States Marine Corps
9and then returned to Joliet Junior College to resume his
10education; he attended Illinois State University and completed
11his Bachelor of Arts in Education and his Master of Science in
12Counseling and Guidance; 5 years later, he moved his family to
13Bloomington, Indiana, where he received a doctorate degree in
14counseling psychology from Indiana University; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Richard Dobbs spent his career working as a
16psychologist; he was in private practice for over 25 years and
17then returned to JTHS as a guidance counselor for 10 years
18before retiring; he demonstrated commitment to his community
19through countless volunteer services and particularly enjoyed
20coaching youth sports; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Richard Dobbs was a voracious reader and one of
22his favorite places was the Joliet Public Library; he was

1recognized by Crisis Line for his years as a trainer and was
2also a long-standing member of the JTHS Archives committee; he
3was an active participant and beloved member of the Sacred
4Heart Church family; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Richard Dobbs is survived by his wife of 56 years,
6Annette (DiLorenzo), and his children, Doug, Barb, Cathy (Ben
7Whitlock), and Michael (Jennifer Grisham-Dobbs); he was "Papa"
8to Carly, Katharine, Daniel, Emilie, Noah, Simone, and Beckett;
9he is also survived by his sister, Judy (late Stan) Waznis; his
10brother, Jack (Lois) Dobbs; his niece; his 4 nephews; and his
11special godson, Tristan McKinnis; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Richard "Butch" Dobbs, and extend our sincere condolences to
15his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Richard Dobbs as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
