SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of David R. Holst of Moline, who passed away
4on December 2, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, David Holst was born in Davenport, Iowa on
6February 16, 1938 to H.L. Roy Holst and Ruth Fowler Holst; he
7married Maryn Kay Hix on June 26, 1960 in Oskaloosa, Iowa; he
8graduated from Moline High School and William Penn College; he
9was proud to be a United States Marine and was honored to be an
10active member of the Marine Corps League; and
 
11    WHEREAS, David Holst was owner of the Holst-Kakert Co. in
12Moline, with his son, Peter, and was the face of the company
13for 55 years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, David Holst was a member of First Congregational
15Church in Moline and a member of the choir and a junior high
16church school teacher; he was the town clerk in Moline Township
17for many years and a member and song leader of the Moline
18Noontime Kiwanis; he served on many boards at his church and on
19the Outdoor Ministry Team for the Illinois Conference of the
20United Church of Christ; and
 
21    WHEREAS, David Holst was an assistant with just about

1everything his boys were into, Scouting, athletics, youth
2group, Young Life, Boys Choir, Ski Club, and Indian Guides; he
3also was involved as a camp counselor at Pilgrim Park, with
4Teens Encountered Christ, and with Cursillo; he was an
5excellent gardener, golf enthusiast, and storyteller and
6someone who truly loved life, work, family, friends, and his
7customers; and
 
8    WHEREAS, David Holst was preceded in death by his wife,
9Maryn; his brother, Albion Holst; and his parents; and
 
10    WHEREAS, David Holst is survived by his son and
11daughter-in-law, the Rev. John and Sara Holst; his
12grandchildren, Ashley Holst, Damon Holst, and Torrie Holst; his
13son, Peter Holst, and his fiancee, Felicia Craig; his
14grandchildren, Michael Holst and Lexie Holst, and their mother,
15Christine Holst; "Sweetheart" Elizabeth Champion and her
16family; his many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his family
17at First Congregational Church, past and present; therefore, be
18it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21David R. Holst, and extend our sincere condolences to his
22family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
