SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Glenn E. "Pete" Peterson of McHenry, who passed away on December 1, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Peterson was born in Woodstock on October 27, 1925 to Glenn and Frances (nee Petersen) Peterson; he graduated from McHenry Community High School in 1943 and served in the United States Navy during World War II from January of 1943 until June of 1946; he married Berniece Blake on October 12, 1950 at St. Mary's Church in McHenry; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Peterson owned and operated the McHenry Bakery from 1958 until 1970; after putting his baker's hat away, he became an employee of the City of McHenry in 1970, where he was Building and Zoning officer; in 1976, he went to work for the County of McHenry in the Building and Zoning Department, where he later became the Director of the Department before retiring in 1988; and

WHEREAS, For 30 years from 1955 to 1986, Glenn Peterson was a member of the McHenry Township Fire Protection District, for which he served the last 17 years as Fire Chief; during his tenure with the District, he pursued advanced training in fire operations, safety, and arson investigation, taking many courses and receiving certificates of completion from the University of Illinois; he was a member of the McHenry County Fire Chiefs Association, the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association, and the International Fire Chiefs Association; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Peterson was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in McHenry and Catholic Order of Foresters #594; he was an Eagle Scout with Troop 162 and a member of American Legion Post 491; he enjoyed fishing with friends and especially with his son, Jon, and was considered the family handyman over the years; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Peterson was preceded in death by his sister, Carol (Bernard) Hamil; his mother and father; and his grandparents; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Peterson is survived by his wife of 65 years, Berniece; his 8 children, Nancy (Tim) Downes, Michael (Laura) Peterson, Michele Peterson, Sandra (Tom) Sroka, Donna Peterson, Diane Peterson, B. Jon (Leanne) Peterson, and Mark (Audra) Peterson; his 12 grandchildren, Eva, Nolan, Erik, Joseph, Cordon (Ashley), Abbey (Karsten), Bryan, Melissa, Maddy, Danielle, Dylan, and Blake; his brother, Bob (Vilma) Peterson; and his half-sister, Judy (Dale) Katz; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Glenn E. "Pete" Peterson, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Glenn Peterson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
