|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Glenn E. "Pete" Peterson of McHenry, who |
4 | | passed away on December 1, 2015; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Glenn Peterson was born in Woodstock on October |
6 | | 27, 1925 to Glenn and Frances (nee Petersen) Peterson; he |
7 | | graduated from McHenry Community High School in 1943 and served |
8 | | in the United States Navy during World War II from January of |
9 | | 1943 until June of 1946; he married Berniece Blake on October |
10 | | 12, 1950 at St. Mary's Church in McHenry; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Glenn Peterson owned and operated the McHenry |
12 | | Bakery from 1958 until 1970; after putting his baker's hat |
13 | | away, he became an employee of the City of McHenry in 1970, |
14 | | where he was Building and Zoning officer; in 1976, he went to |
15 | | work for the County of McHenry in the Building and Zoning |
16 | | Department, where he later became the Director of the |
17 | | Department before retiring in 1988; and |
18 | | WHEREAS, For 30 years from 1955 to 1986, Glenn Peterson was |
19 | | a member of the McHenry Township Fire Protection District, for |
20 | | which he served the last 17 years as Fire Chief; during his |
21 | | tenure with the District, he pursued advanced training in fire |
22 | | operations, safety, and arson investigation, taking many |

1 | | courses and receiving certificates of completion from the |
2 | | University of Illinois; he was a member of the McHenry County |
3 | | Fire Chiefs Association, the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association, |
4 | | and the International Fire Chiefs Association; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Glenn Peterson was a longtime member of St. Mary's |
6 | | Catholic Church in McHenry and Catholic Order of Foresters |
7 | | #594; he was an Eagle Scout with Troop 162 and a member of |
8 | | American Legion Post 491; he enjoyed fishing with friends and |
9 | | especially with his son, Jon, and was considered the family |
10 | | handyman over the years; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Glenn Peterson was preceded in death by his |
12 | | sister, Carol (Bernard) Hamil; his mother and father; and his |
13 | | grandparents; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Glenn Peterson is survived by his wife of 65 |
15 | | years, Berniece; his 8 children, Nancy (Tim) Downes, Michael |
16 | | (Laura) Peterson, Michele Peterson, Sandra (Tom) Sroka, Donna |
17 | | Peterson, Diane Peterson, B. Jon (Leanne) Peterson, and Mark |
18 | | (Audra) Peterson; his 12 grandchildren, Eva, Nolan, Erik, |
19 | | Joseph, Cordon (Ashley), Abbey (Karsten), Bryan, Melissa, |
20 | | Maddy, Danielle, Dylan, and Blake; his brother, Bob (Vilma) |
21 | | Peterson; and his half-sister, Judy (Dale) Katz; therefore, be |
22 | | it

1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
3 | | Glenn E. "Pete" Peterson, and extend our sincere condolences to |
4 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
5 | | further

6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 | | presented to the family of Glenn Peterson as an expression of |
8 | | our deepest sympathy.
