| 2 | | WHEREAS, The youth movement in the United States known as |
| 3 | | "Boys State" is a program of citizen training sponsored by the |
| 4 | | American Legion; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Boys State was originated by the American Legion's |
| 6 | | Department of Illinois in 1934; the organization was |
| 7 | | subsequently adopted by the national organization in 1935 and |
| 8 | | since then has been put into operation in every state in the |
| 9 | | Union; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Boys State aims at all times to make its program |
| 11 | | of training in functional citizenship effective through |
| 12 | | creating a wide range of opportunities for participation; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, The American Legion's Boys State partner program |
| 14 | | is Girls State, which provides training for young women in |
| 15 | | city, county, and state government; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, With the educational benefits and importance of |
| 17 | | voting and getting involved in their communities, states, and |
| 18 | | the nation at large, Illinois Boys State and Illinois Girls |
| 19 | | State give young citizens confidence and knowledge to go |
| 20 | | forward in their adult lives; and
