SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Clarence Herbert "Bob" Alley, who passed
4away on November 26, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Clarence Alley was born on October 10, 1942 in
6Cincinnati, Ohio; his parents were James Nelson Alley and Emma
7Spears Harris (nee Wallace); and
 
8    WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Clarence Alley
9served in the United States Marine Corps from 1962 to 1966; he
10later earned a Ph.D. in public administration; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Clarence Alley retired from the University of
12Illinois in December of 2003 after many years of service;
13following his retirement, he spent his time volunteering at
14Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, playing the guitar, having
15regular breakfast meetings with his friends, and spending time
16with his family; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Clarence Alley became interested in music at a
18young age, participating in Sunday hootenannies with his
19family; he loved classic rock and old country and played lead
20guitar in a number of bands over the years, his last band being
21NTL (Never Too Late), where he played with his cousin, David

1Spears; he also played a few gigs with his son, Phil; he was
2also an avid bike rider; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Clarence Alley was a member of St. Christopher
4Episcopal Church in Rantoul, where he served as Bishop's Warden
5for many years and was in charge of the music program; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Clarence Alley was preceded in death by his
7parents; his stepfather, Wallace Harris; and his sister, Joyce
8Alley Spurlock (Lewis T.); and
 
9    WHEREAS, Clarence Alley is survived by his wife of 37
10years, Ann Leonard Alley; his children, Stacey (Chuck) Sohn,
11Heather (Joe) Ketchem, Philip Alley, and Emily (Dan) Yarger;
12his brother, Robert (Brenda) Harris; his sisters, Barbara
13(Leonard) Winchester, Julitta Allen, and Lisa (Jake) Redden;
14his grandchildren, Hannah Hilton, Josh Hilton, Henry Sohn, and
15Phoebe Sohn; and his beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and
16cousins; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
19family and friends, mourn the passing of Clarence Herbert "Bob"
20Alley; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
