| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of William J. "Willie" Roth of Joliet, who |
| 4 | | passed away on December 28, 2015 at the age of 91; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, William Roth was born to German and Austrian |
| 6 | | immigrants, William and Stella (Pacen) Roth; he grew up in |
| 7 | | Joliet and excelled in football and basketball at Joliet |
| 8 | | Township High School and Joliet Junior College, before |
| 9 | | enlisting in the United States Army Air Force; he served as a |
| 10 | | Lieutenant during World War II, flying 25 bombing missions over |
| 11 | | enemy territory; after returning from the war, he earned his |
| 12 | | business degree at Northwestern University, while playing for |
| 13 | | the Wildcats basketball team; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, For decades, William Roth was an esteemed banker, |
| 15 | | businessman, and financial consultant in the greater |
| 16 | | Chicagoland area, including over 30 years at Bill Jacobs |
| 17 | | Chevrolet; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, William Roth was active in many civic |
| 19 | | organizations, including serving as President of the Joliet |
| 20 | | Region Chamber of Commerce; he and his wife traveled the world |
| 21 | | and he was an excellent tennis player and an avid golfer; he |
| 22 | | was a vital member of Saint Raymond Nonnatus Parish and a |
