SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Emma Lee McCullum of Joliet, who passed
4away on January 19, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Emma McCullum was born to Pink and Lacy Jones in
6Heidelberg, Mississippi on January 19, 1933; she married Weems
7McCullum, Sr. on Christmas Eve in 1952; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Emma McCullum enjoyed a career of more than 30
9years at Caterpillar, Inc. and was in the first group of women
10hired by the company; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Emma McCullum was a faithful member of Second
12Baptist Church for over 60 years; she also volunteered at the
13Second Baptist and Sacred Heart Blessing Tables; her house was
14open to anyone who needed a meal; she possessed the gifts of
15generosity and conversation and never met a stranger; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Emma McCullum was preceded in death by her
17parents; her 2 brothers; and her sister; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Emma McCullum is survived by her husband, Weems
19McCullum, Sr.; her 2 daughters, Edna (Saul) Brass and LaJean
20(Steven) Grossett; her 2 sons, Derrick "Donnie" McCullum and

1Weems (Tracy) McCullum, Jr.; her stepson, Thomas (Georgia)
2Bridges; her sister, Laura Ann McCurdy; her 2 brothers, Sharbor
3(Eloise) Jones and Joseph (Ellen) Jones; her grandchildren,
4Essence (Michael) Clark, Sharralyn (Wendell) Martin, E.
5Marissa (Danielle) Cochran, Weems (Carlicia) McCullum III,
6Clifford McCullum, Demetria Bridges, Centralia Bridges, and
7Thomas Bridges; her great-grandchildren; a host of nieces,
8nephews, cousins, and friends; and the crew at the Second
9Baptist and Sacred Heart Blessing Tables; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Emma Lee McCullum, and extend our sincere condolences to her
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Emma McCullum as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
