SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Mercedes "Nora" Atteberry of Champaign,
4who passed away on January 11, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mercedes Atteberry was born in Detroit, Michigan
6to Ignacio and Yvonne DesRouches Hernandez on July 25, 1930;
7she married Frank Atteberry at Old St. Mary's Catholic Church
8in Chicago on August 9, 1947; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Mercedes Atteberry was a homemaker; her family was
10her vocation and the source of her greatest joy; she was a
11dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Mercedes Atteberry was a devout Roman Catholic;
14she never wavered in her faith and held a strong devotion to
15Our Lady of Guadalupe; she was a member of St. Matthew Catholic
16Parish in Champaign and gave generously to many Catholic
17charities and missions; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Mercedes Atteberry was a prolific reader of
19mysteries and biographies and was an avid follower of politics;
20she enjoyed traveling to Mexico with her sisters to visit their
21father and extended family in Zamora, Michoacan; she spent many

1hours volunteering as a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout
2leader and in many capacities at Robeson Elementary School in
3Champaign; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Mercedes Atteberry was preceded in death by her
5parents; her husband of 44 years, Frank; her infant son, Tommy;
6her 3 sisters, Teresa Hernandez, Rose Gauss, and Mary Crowder;
7her brother, Albert Hernandez; and her infant granddaughter,
8Megan Kelly; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Mercedes Atteberry is survived by her 2 daughters,
10Suzie (Tim) Conley and Cindy (Mike) Kelly; her 4 sons, David
11(Erin) Atteberry, Danny (Jim Slaughter) Atteberry, Andy
12(Charity) Atteberry, and Timmy (Deanna) Atteberry; and her 13
13grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Mercedes "Nora" Atteberry, and extend our sincere condolences
17to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be
18it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Mercedes Atteberry as an expression
21of our deepest sympathy.
