SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Nadine Nichole Allen, M.D., who passed away on February 1, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Allen was born in Lake Forest to Lorna and Orville Allen on September 18, 1977; she was baptized at the 10th Street Church of Christ in North Chicago (now known as North Shore Church of Christ); she graduated from Waukegan High School in 1995 and attended Bradley University, where she majored in pre-professional biology; she continued her education at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, where she completed a post-baccalaureate program in Urban Health; she received her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in May of 2006; and

WHEREAS, After completing medical school, Dr. Allen performed her medical internship at Loyola University Medical Center; she then joined Northwestern University to complete her anesthesiology residency; she had a passion for working with children and pursued a Fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesiology at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Indiana; she then joined Rush University Medical Center as an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and became a board certified anesthesiologist; she pursued another Fellowship in Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia; after completing her fellowships and trainings, she joined St. Louis University/Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center as a double board certified pediatric cardiac anesthesiologist and assistant professor in July of 2015; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Allen was a proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Zeta Phi Chapter during her undergraduate studies and then joined the Lambda Chi Sigma graduate chapter; she was active in sorority events and enjoyed serving at the Ronald McDonald House; she was also a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Illinois Society of Anesthesiologists, the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia, the American Medical Association, and the National Medical Association; she was published in the International Journal of Obstetric Anesthesia and spoke at various medical conferences around the country; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Allen was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Leleith Allen; her paternal grandfather, Gilford Allen; her maternal grandfather, Clarence McCarthy; and her cousin, Jonathan McKnight; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Allen is survived by her grandmother, Gladys McCarthy; her parents, Lorna and Orville Allen; her sister, Alesia Allen; her brother, Sheldon Allen; her godson, Mekhi McCarthy; her 10 aunts, Alpha (Basil), Yolette, Dawn, Claudette, Patricia, Norma, Donna (Errol), Sandra, Denise (Derrick) Vivienne, and Yvonne; her 6 uncles, Carl, Kenneth (Sharon), Derrick (Angela), Colin(Denise), Jason, and Errol; and a host of other cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Nadine Nichole Allen, M.D., and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Allen as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
