SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Nadine Nichole Allen, M.D., who passed
4away on February 1, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Allen was born in Lake Forest to Lorna and
6Orville Allen on September 18, 1977; she was baptized at the
710th Street Church of Christ in North Chicago (now known as
8North Shore Church of Christ); she graduated from Waukegan High
9School in 1995 and attended Bradley University, where she
10majored in pre-professional biology; she continued her
11education at the University of Illinois College of Medicine,
12where she completed a post-baccalaureate program in Urban
13Health; she received her Doctorate of Medicine from the
14University of Illinois College of Medicine in May of 2006; and
 
15    WHEREAS, After completing medical school, Dr. Allen
16performed her medical internship at Loyola University Medical
17Center; she then joined Northwestern University to complete her
18anesthesiology residency; she had a passion for working with
19children and pursued a Fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesiology
20at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Indiana; she
21then joined Rush University Medical Center as an Assistant
22Professor of Anesthesiology and became a board certified
23anesthesiologist; she pursued another Fellowship in Pediatric

1Cardiac Anesthesiology at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at
2Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia; after completing her
3fellowships and trainings, she joined St. Louis
4University/Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center as a
5double board certified pediatric cardiac anesthesiologist and
6assistant professor in July of 2015; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Allen was a proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho
8Sorority, Inc. Zeta Phi Chapter during her undergraduate
9studies and then joined the Lambda Chi Sigma graduate chapter;
10she was active in sorority events and enjoyed serving at the
11Ronald McDonald House; she was also a member of the American
12Society of Anesthesiologists, the Illinois Society of
13Anesthesiologists, the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia, the
14American Medical Association, and the National Medical
15Association; she was published in the International Journal of
16Obstetric Anesthesia and spoke at various medical conferences
17around the country; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dr. Allen was preceded in death by her paternal
19grandmother, Leleith Allen; her paternal grandfather, Gilford
20Allen; her maternal grandfather, Clarence McCarthy; and her
21cousin, Jonathan McKnight; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Dr. Allen is survived by her grandmother, Gladys
23McCarthy; her parents, Lorna and Orville Allen; her sister,

1Alesia Allen; her brother, Sheldon Allen; her godson, Mekhi
2McCarthy; her 10 aunts, Alpha (Basil), Yolette, Dawn,
3Claudette, Patricia, Norma, Donna (Errol), Sandra, Denise
4(Derrick) Vivienne, and Yvonne; her 6 uncles, Carl, Kenneth
5(Sharon), Derrick (Angela), Colin(Denise), Jason, and Errol;
6and a host of other cousins; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Nadine Nichole Allen, M.D., and extend our sincere condolences
10to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be
11it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Dr. Allen as an expression of our
14deepest sympathy.
