| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of James "Roy" Cox of Erie, who passed away |
| 4 | | on February 15, 2016; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, James Cox was born in Erie to Clay and Florence |
| 6 | | Quade Cox on January 27, 1926; he served in the United States |
| 7 | | Army during World War II from 1945 to 1947; he married Arvilla |
| 8 | | Updyke on November 11, 1949; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, James Cox was a farmer; he also worked as an |
| 10 | | electrician for Heuer Electric in Erie and as a custodian for |
| 11 | | the Erie Community School District, from which he retired; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, James Cox was a member of Erie American Legion |
| 13 | | Post 582, where he previously held all of the Chairs, including |
| 14 | | Commander; he also held many Chairs and served as Commander of |
| 15 | | the American Legion 13th District from 1984 to 1985; he was a |
| 16 | | member of the American Legion from 1947 to 2016; he was a |
| 17 | | member of the Erie United Methodist Church, the Moose Lodge, |
| 18 | | Geneseo, and he helped with the Special Olympics in |
| 19 | | Bloomington-Normal for many years; he enjoyed bowling; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, James Cox was preceded in death by his parents; |
| 21 | | his wife, Arvilla; his brother; and 3 sisters; and
