SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Duane F. Heward of Peoria, who passed
4away on February 22, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Duane Heward was born on March 12, 1931 in
6Princeton; his parents were Ernest and Sylvena Peterson Heward;
7he married Pauline "Polly" Bayer on May 20, 1978; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Duane Heward served in the Army National Guard
9during the Korean War; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Duane Heward was a Bradley University graduate; he
11worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company as an accountant for 35
12years until his retirement in 1991; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Duane Heward was a very active volunteer at
14Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria; he served on the board at
15the United Way, Friendship House, and the Peoria Housing
16Authority; he was a Peoria Precinct Committeeman; he was a
17founding member of Habitat for Humanity in the Peoria area; he
18and his wife were the original recipients of the Volunteer of
19the Year Award given by Counseling and Family Services, which
20has continued to be given annually as "The Duane & Polly Heward
21Volunteer of the Year Award"; and

1    WHEREAS, Duane Heward was a member of Glen Oak Christian
2Church, where he served as Elder and on several different
3boards; he also was an associate member of First Christian
4Church in Peoria; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Duane Heward was preceded in death by his wife,
6Pauline; his daughter, Kathleen Lemon; his brother, Harold; and
7his sister, Rozina; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Duane Heward is survived by his daughters, Doreen
9(Ken) Stachowicz, Pamela (Frank) Hanson, Rebecca "Becky"
10Chapman, and Christie (George) George; his 9 grandchildren; his
115 great-grandchildren; his sister, Neva (Russ) Wager; his many
12nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Shifu; therefore, be
13it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
16family and friends, mourn the passing of Duane F. Heward; and
17be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Duane Heward as an expression of our
20sympathy.
