| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of John Gaylord Holub, formerly of Rockford, |
| 4 | | who passed away on January 31, 2016; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Holub was born in Rockford to Arthur J. and |
| 6 | | Marie K. (nee Donaldson) Holub on May 19, 1941; he graduated |
| 7 | | from Rockford East High School in 1959 and attended Drake |
| 8 | | University in Des Moines, Iowa and Rockford College; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, John Holub worked for Rockford Blacktop and Holub |
| 10 | | and Associates, Ltd.; he served as an Alderman on the Rockford |
| 11 | | City Council; and |
| 12 | | WHEREAS, John Holub served as Director of the Rockford Area |
| 13 | | Chamber of Commerce, beginning in 1982; he was the first |
| 14 | | "activist" President of the organization and showed that |
| 15 | | government and business could accomplish a great deal if they |
| 16 | | worked together; under his leadership, the organization became |
| 17 | | nonpartisan and forged alliances between government
and |
| 18 | | business, raising more than $1 million through the Council of |
| 19 | | 100 to market the region; he opened an office in the Illinois |
| 20 | | World Trade Center to sell Rockford to the rest of the world; |
| 21 | | he helped the region get
a U.S. Department of Commerce |
| 22 | | international trade office to help companies grow through
