SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Craig Madden Chambers of Danville, who
4passed away on February 8, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Craig Chambers was born in Monticello to Earl and
6Erma (nee Madden) Chambers on May 24, 1936; he graduated from
7Rantoul High School in 1954 and served in the United States
8Army; he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from
9Eastern Illinois University; he later did his post-graduate
10work at the University of Illinois, Illinois State University,
11and the University of Michigan, London; he married Mary Hedrick
12in Rantoul in 1963; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Craig Chambers worked as a professor at Danville
14Area Community College for over 30 years; prior to that, he
15taught in the Chicago area and in Georgetown, retiring in 1997;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, Craig Chambers enjoyed reading, was a world
18traveler, and could never spend enough time with his 2
19granddaughters; he was a lifetime member of the Parent-Teachers
20Association, the Vermilion County Museum Society, and the
21Vermilion County War Museum; he proudly served 2 terms on the
22Vermilion County Board; he was also a member of Chi Gamma Iota,

1the Veterans Scholastic Honor Society, Rantoul Mason Lodge
2#470, the Danville Scottish Rite, SUAA, the Danville Elks, the
3Golden K Kiwanis, and St. James United Methodist Church; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Craig Chambers was preceded in death by his
5parents and his brother-in-law, Winslow Cope; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Craig Chambers is survived by his wife of 52
7years, Mary; his daughter, Lydia "Lydie" (Christopher)
8Voorhees; his 2 granddaughters, Elizabeth Kay and Catherine
9Anne Voorhees; his 4 sisters, Alora Cope, Thelma (Marty)
10Martin, Dana (Brian) Hershey, and Christina "Chris"
11(Jong-Joon) Chun; and several nieces and nephews and their
12children; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Craig Madden Chambers, and extend our sincere condolences to
16his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Craig Chambers as an expression of
20our deepest sympathy.
