SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Minister Melvin "Bug" Jenkins, Sr., who
4passed away on March 1, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Melvin Jenkins, Sr. was born in Chicago to Essie
6and William Jenkins, Sr. on August 29, 1962, as a surprise
7addition to his twin, Marilyn Jenkins; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Melvin Jenkins, Sr. attended Proviso East High
9School and served as a Cook County Forest Preserve District
10Officer for a number of years; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Melvin Jenkins, Sr. also served in various
12capacities at Lively Stone Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago
13and at Garden of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church in Broadview;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Melvin Jenkins, Sr. always found great joy in
16assisting and serving the lost, downtrodden, and broken in
17spirit; he could always be found ministering, singing, and
18wearing a warm and welcoming smile; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Melvin Jenkins, Sr. enjoyed sharing the Gospel of
20Jesus Christ, bowling, attending concerts, traveling on cruise

1ships, spoiling his children and grandchildren, and weekly
2dinners with his mother and siblings; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Melvin Jenkins, Sr. was preceded in death by, and
4is now reunited with, his twin, Marilyn Jenkins; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Melvin Jenkins, Sr. leaves cherished memories to
6his mother, Essie Jenkins; his father, Rev. William (Lula)
7Jenkins, Sr.; his wife, Vivian Burley-Jenkins; his four
8children, Taurean (Idelia) Rideau, Lasheena (Quintin)
9Williams, Tramond Ingram, and Melvin Jenkins, Jr.; his
10stepdaughter, Angela; his seven grandchildren, Taurean, Jr.,
11Iyannah, Morgan, Johnathan, Brantson, Tramond, Jr., and
12Tramine; his 12 siblings, William, Jr. (Diane), Eddie
13(Patricia), Shirley (Robert), Marcell (Larry), Windol
14(Josephine), Ivory, Arthur, Harold, Artarius, Jacqueline,
15LaNisha, and Contrell (LenKisha); and a host of nieces,
16nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Minister Melvin "Bug" Jenkins, Sr., and extend our sincere
20condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
21him; and be it further
