SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Calvin Franklin "Cal" Ennis, who passed
4away on March 6, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Calvin Ennis was born on March 7, 1925 in Alton;
6his parents were William Zachariah and Viola Ovila Ennis; he
7married Virginia Moody on December 20, 1947 in Alton; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Calvin Ennis attended radio training school
9before enlisting in the United States Navy; he served during
10World War II aboard the USS Bluefish; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Calvin Ennis was a member of Veterans of Foreign
12Wars Post 1308 and enjoyed attending the weekly meetings of his
13PTSD Group at Jefferson Barracks; he was a member of Brown
14Street Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir and served as
15a Deacon and a Sunday school teacher for the young married
16couples class; as a woodworker, he volunteered his skills to
17the church where needed, including making cabinets for the
18church; he later became a member of Heartland Baptist Church
19and served as an usher and built the wooden cross which hangs
20behind the choir; he also used his woodworking skills to build
21props for the Showtime Productions Dance Studio in Alton; and

1    WHEREAS, Calvin Ennis was preceded in death by his parents;
2his stepfather, Frederick "Joe" Burger; his sons, William
3Dwight and Calvin Brady Ennis; his son-in-law, David Wayne
4Laslie; and his sisters, Imogene (Ennis) Billings and Martha
5(Burger) Cunningham; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Calvin Ennis is survived by his wife, Virginia;
7his daughters, Barbara J. (Ennis) Laslie and Paulette Janine
8Ennis; his grandchildren, David Laslie (Christopher Roberts)
9and Shaun T. (Laura) Laslie; and his great-grandchildren,
10Caden, Alaina, and Abigail Laslie; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
13family and friends, mourn the passing of Calvin Franklin "Cal"
14Ennis; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Calvin Ennis as an expression of our
17sympathy.
