SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ida Marie Walker Lake, who passed away on February 29, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Ida Lake was born in Brownsville, Tennessee to John Currie and Mary Frances (Carter) Currie on June 2, 1931; she was a member of the Willow Grove Baptist Church and married Roger E. Walker, Sr. in Corinth, Mississippi in 1947; she later married Prentice Lake; and

WHEREAS, Ida Lake and her family relocated to Decatur; she became a charter-member of the Church of the Living God P.G.T., where she served as choir President and was a member of the Kitchen Committee, Usher, and on the Mission Board; several years later, her son, Thomas, founded the Main Street Church of the Living God, where she was a charter-member and served on the Mothers and Mission Boards; she was dedicated to Sunday School; and

WHEREAS, Ida Lake was called "Grandma" by numerous people; she often assisted parents by transporting, feeding, and caring for their children; she loved to cook large meals for her family and her church family; she was well known for her signature caramel cakes and sweet potato and egg pies; and

WHEREAS, Ida Lake was preceded in death by her second husband, Prentice; her parents; her son, Roger E. Walker, Jr.; 13 brothers and sisters; and her granddaughter, Kamisha Walker-Hodge; and

WHEREAS, Ida Lake is survived by her sons, Dr. Overseer Thomas (Margaret) Walker, Arthur Lee (Terri) Walker, Hilda Walker, and Timothy Lake; her stepdaughter, Faye McClelland; her foster daughter and niece, Diane Bond; her sister, Doris Lawrence; her special sister and niece, Mildred Taylor; her grandchildren, Tammie Shaw, Pierre Perkins, Anthony Corey (Sylvia) Walker, Ryan (Sherrie) Walker, Robin Ketchens, Shane (Alisha) Walker, Adrian Walker, Shalen Walker, Jalynn Walker, Emoni Lake, Shannon Bond, Martina Bond, Soraya Lake, and Lebron and Landon Robinson; her sisters-in-law, Beulah Currie, Mary Ann Boyd, Flora Jean (AD) Brooks, and Dimple Walker; her special nieces, Clara (Leroy) Clark, Louverna (Tim) Hess, Linda and Erika Taylor, Margaret (Rhee) Walker, and Barbara (Fenner) Bond; her special nephews, Bobby Lawrence and Ricky (Vanessa) Goforth; her god daughters, Ellen Young and Vivian (Millard) Goodman; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, Main Street Mission Board, Main Street Church family, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Ida Marie Walker Lake, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ida Lake as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
