SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Antonio W. "Tony" Ferris of Peoria, who
4passed away on March 29, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Antonio Ferris was born on June 25, 1939 in
6Peoria; his parents were Frederick and Cecelia
7Williams-Ferris; he married Nayibe "Naya" Salomon on December
810, 1960 in North Tonawanda, New York; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Antonio Ferris grew up in Peoria on First Street
10in a house that was connected to Ferris Market, the family
11grocery store; he graduated from Spalding High School in 1958;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Antonio Ferris served in the United States Army
14Reserve for six years; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Antonio Ferris worked at Komatsu Mining System as
16a welder for 34 years until his retirement in 1998; he also
17worked as a mechanic for Travis and Egolf Cadillac and was a
18committeeman for the International Brotherhood Boiler Makers
19Union; following his retirement, he loved spending his time as
20a volunteer at Proctor Hospital and at local prisons
21ministering to inmates; and

1    WHEREAS, Antonio Ferris was a loyal and active member of
2the Men's Itoo Society; he was actively involved in the St.
3Thomas Catholic Church Men's Club, serving as treasurer; he led
4the fundraising efforts for the church with Casino Nights, fish
5frys, and other events for many years; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Antonio Ferris enjoyed fishing with his family and
7friends and playing cards in his long-standing Sunday game; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Antonio Ferris was preceded in death by his wife,
9Nayibe; his parents; his brother, Larry; and his son, Phillip;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, Antonio Ferris is survived by his children, Denise
12Ferris (Chan-li Lin), Frederick Ferris, and Kevin (Danielle)
13Ferris; his grandchildren, Kylie Ferris, Abigayle Plutz, and
14Vincent Phillip Ferris, with another on the way; and his
15sisters, Susan Salomon and Jeannie Ferris; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
18family and friends, mourn the passing of Antonio W. "Tony"
19Ferris; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
