SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Geraldine A. "Gerri" Brauneis of Oak
4Park, who passed away on February 29, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gerri Brauneis was born on September 10, 1930; her
6parents were the late Robert and Jean Riddell; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Gerri Brauneis was a graduate of Stanford
8University and the Chicago-Kent College of Law; she practiced
9family law for many years in the Chicago area; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Gerri Brauneis was known for her warmth,
11enthusiasm, and profound commitment to family life, community
12organizing, and peace and justice activism; she was deeply
13involved in community organizing and social campaigns
14concerning race, interfaith and Israeli-Palestinian relations,
15gun control, homelessness, torture prevention, and voting
16rights; she was well known for her infectious commitment to her
17causes and her personal humility; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Gerri Brauneis would greet her fellow activists by
19telling them that they were marvelous and that she did not know
20how they did everything they did; and

1    WHEREAS, Gerri Brauneis was a long-time member of the
2Committee for a Just Peace in Israel and Palestine and the St.
3Giles Family Mass Community, including the Action for Justice
4Committee; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gerri Brauneis was the beloved wife of William C.
6"Bill" Brauneis; the mother of Robert (Ulrike), James (Laurie),
7Steven (Masako), and Laura (William Rentz) Brauneis; and the
8grandmother of Elizabeth and William J. Brauneis, Kate
9Brauneis-Krull, Kai and Sho Brauneis, and Sophia-Marie Rentz;
10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
13family and friends, mourn the passing of Geraldine A. "Gerri"
14Brauneis; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Gerri Brauneis as an expression of
17our sympathy.
