SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Geraldine A. "Gerri" Brauneis of Oak Park, who passed away on February 29, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Gerri Brauneis was born on September 10, 1930; her parents were the late Robert and Jean Riddell; and

WHEREAS, Gerri Brauneis was a graduate of Stanford University and the Chicago-Kent College of Law; she practiced family law for many years in the Chicago area; and

WHEREAS, Gerri Brauneis was known for her warmth, enthusiasm, and profound commitment to family life, community organizing, and peace and justice activism; she was deeply involved in community organizing and social campaigns concerning race, interfaith and Israeli-Palestinian relations, gun control, homelessness, torture prevention, and voting rights; she was well known for her infectious commitment to her causes and her personal humility; and

WHEREAS, Gerri Brauneis would greet her fellow activists by telling them that they were marvelous and that she did not know how they did everything they did; and

WHEREAS, Gerri Brauneis was a long-time member of the Committee for a Just Peace in Israel and Palestine and the St. Giles Family Mass Community, including the Action for Justice Committee; and

WHEREAS, Gerri Brauneis was the beloved wife of William C. "Bill" Brauneis; the mother of Robert (Ulrike), James (Laurie), Steven (Masako), and Laura (William Rentz) Brauneis; and the grandmother of Elizabeth and William J. Brauneis, Kate Brauneis-Krull, Kai and Sho Brauneis, and Sophia-Marie Rentz; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Geraldine A. "Gerri" Brauneis; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gerri Brauneis as an expression of our sympathy.
