SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Melvin Leroy Deskin of Lockport, who
4passed away on March 23, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Melvin Deskin was born on May 21, 1937 in Pekin;
6his parents were Norlan Edgar Deskin and Mary Ethel Deskin; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Melvin Deskin was a graduate of Pekin High School
8and Western Illinois University; he also held a master's degree
9from Indiana State University; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Melvin Deskin began his career as a teacher in
111959 at Lockport Township High School, where he taught physical
12education and driver education; when Lockport West (now
13Romeoville High School) opened in 1963, he moved to the new
14school, where he worked until his retirement in 1994; he spent
15the last 15 years in retirement in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida,
16where he fished nearly every day of his retirement; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Melvin Deskin is best remembered for his 45 years
18as a football coach at Lockport West/Romeoville High School,
19where he served as both Head Coach and Assistant Coach; he also
20served as an assistant for the Joliet Chargers, Joliet Junior
21College, the University of St. Francis, and Joliet Catholic

2    WHEREAS, Melvin Deskin was preceded in death by his
3parents; his daughter, Dana Deskin Dolan; and his
4granddaughter, Molly Rose Dolan; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Melvin Deskin is survived by his wife, Rosalie
6Deskin; his sons, Darren (Diane) and Brent (Lisa); his sister,
7Ethel Kline; his son-in-law, Stephen Dolan, Sr.; his
8grandchildren, Amy Deskin Hop, Melanie Deskin, Derek (Jessica)
9Deskin, Erin (Steven) Russell, Meghan Dolan, Ginny (Nicholas)
10Perry, Stephen Dolan, Jr., Delanie Dolan, Tara Deskin, Chase
11Deskin, and Taylor Deskin; and his great-grandchildren,
12Juliette Hop, Keith Hop, Allison Foreman, and Haddie Russell;
13therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
16family and friends, mourn the passing of Melvin Leroy Deskin;
17and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Melvin Deskin as an expression of
20our sympathy.
