| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Melvin Leroy Deskin of Lockport, who |
| 4 | | passed away on March 23, 2016; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Melvin Deskin was born on May 21, 1937 in Pekin; |
| 6 | | his parents were Norlan Edgar Deskin and Mary Ethel Deskin; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Melvin Deskin was a graduate of Pekin High School |
| 8 | | and Western Illinois University; he also held a master's degree |
| 9 | | from Indiana State University; and |
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Melvin Deskin began his career as a teacher in |
| 11 | | 1959 at Lockport Township High School, where he taught physical |
| 12 | | education and driver education; when Lockport West (now |
| 13 | | Romeoville High School) opened in 1963, he moved to the new |
| 14 | | school, where he worked until his retirement in 1994; he spent |
| 15 | | the last 15 years in retirement in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, |
| 16 | | where he fished nearly every day of his retirement; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Melvin Deskin is best remembered for his 45 years |
| 18 | | as a football coach at Lockport West/Romeoville High School, |
| 19 | | where he served as both Head Coach and Assistant Coach; he also |
| 20 | | served as an assistant for the Joliet Chargers, Joliet Junior |
| 21 | | College, the University of St. Francis, and Joliet Catholic |
