SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Denis Vardal of Joliet, who passed away 
4on March 27, 2016; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Denis Vardal was born in Mykonos, Greece to Kosta 
6and Kalliopi (Xidakis) Vardalahos on April 20, 1934; he was 
7adopted later in life by Yanni Koukas, his mother's second 
8husband; he came to the United States in 1953 in search of his 
9brother, George, who emigrated two years earlier; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Denis Vardal served in the United States Army 
11during the Korean War; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Denis Vardal founded Vardal Engineering Supply in 
131958; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Denis Vardal was a member of Rotary International 
15and the Rotary bowling team; he was a loving and devoted 
16husband, father, and grandfather, and was a father and 
17grandfather to all he met; he was personable, loving, and 
18accepting, and left a lasting impression on everyone; he  was a 
19brilliantly passionate man with so many interests;  his newest 
20granddaughter, Danira, rarely left his lap; on sunny days, he 
21could be found driving his Alpha Romeo; he loved beating

1challengers at cards, backgammon, and Jeopardy; he was a quiet 
2and patient man who appreciated traveling to new and exotic 
3places but always returned to his homeland, Mykonos, for the 
4people, dancing, food, and fun; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Denis Vardal was preceded in death by his wife, 
6Danira (Corso) Vardal; his parents; his  brother, George 
7(Sandra) Vardal; his two sisters in childhood; and his niece, 
8Sande Vardal; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Denis Vardal is survived by his three loving 
10daughters, Denise (Mark) Baker, Debra (Vasillios Korodimos) 
11Vardal, and Dina Vardal; his three beloved grandchildren, 
12Danira Aiginiti, Alexandros Aiginiti, and Danira Vardal; his 
13niece, Laura Vardal; and his nephew, Paul (Marinela) Vardal; 
14therefore, be it
  
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL 
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
17Denis Vardal, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, 
18friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
  
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
20presented to  the family of  Denis Vardal as an expression of our 
21deepest sympathy.
