2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Richard Powell, Jr.; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, Richard Powell, Jr. was born in Indianapolis, |
5 | | Indiana to Leona McDonald and Richard Powell, Sr. on September |
6 | | 30, 1931; he attended Crispus Attucks High School and was an |
7 | | honor roll student; he joined the United States Air Force in |
8 | | August of 1950 and served until September of 1953; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, After the Korean War, Richard Powell, Jr. |
10 | | participated in the sport of boxing, becoming known as "Dick |
11 | | the Stick"; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Richard Powell, Jr. was a member of The Word |
13 | | Evangelistic Church; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Richard Powell, Jr. was preceded in death by his |
15 | | parents; his siblings, Jessie (Mary Barbara) McDonald, Floyd |
16 | | (Loreen) Walton, and Berniece Walton; his son, Orlando Powell; |
17 | | his grandchildren, Hinisha and Sasha; his niece, Terri; and his |
18 | | special friend, O'neal; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Richard Powell, Jr. is survived by his three |
20 | | daughters, Gloria (Walter) Jones, Carmenda Staple, and Latwan |

9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
11 | | Richard Powell, Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to his |
12 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
13 | | further

14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
15 | | presented to the family of Richard Powell, Jr. as an expression |
