SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Richard Powell, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Richard Powell, Jr. was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Leona McDonald and Richard Powell, Sr. on September 30, 1931; he attended Crispus Attucks High School and was an honor roll student; he joined the United States Air Force in August of 1950 and served until September of 1953; and

WHEREAS, After the Korean War, Richard Powell, Jr. participated in the sport of boxing, becoming known as "Dick the Stick"; and

WHEREAS, Richard Powell, Jr. was a member of The Word Evangelistic Church; and

WHEREAS, Richard Powell, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Jessie (Mary Barbara) McDonald, Floyd (Loreen) Walton, and Berniece Walton; his son, Orlando Powell; his grandchildren, Hinisha and Sasha; his niece, Terri; and his special friend, O'neal; and

WHEREAS, Richard Powell, Jr. is survived by his three daughters, Gloria (Walter) Jones, Carmenda Staple, and Latwan (James) Harry; his stepchildren, Kim, Millitye, Nicole, Tanya, and Keith; his grandchildren, Shaleandra, Shamirah, Vernisha, Walter, Kenya, Kenny, Antwon, Lloyd, James Jr., Kiana, Lil Jeremiah, Jeremiah, Geremiah, Keanquntrell, Orlando Jr., Marlando, Terrance, Derrick, and Lawanda; his nieces, Karen, Adriane, Janine, and Talja; his two nephews, Jessie Jr. and Randall; his 21 great-grandchildren; and his special friends, Donald, Chuck, and Apache; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Richard Powell, Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Richard Powell, Jr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
