SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of former Illinois State Senator Vivian 
4Hickey of Rockford, who passed away on April 28, 2016, at the 
5age of 100; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Senator Hickey was a Rockford icon who served in 
7the Illinois Senate and on the Illinois Board of Higher 
8Education and the original Rock Valley College Board of 
9Trustees when it was founded in 1964; she was also a member of 
10the League of Women Voters of Greater Rockford; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Senator Hickey was appointed to the Illinois 
12Senate's 34th District in 1974; she served one four-year term; 
13the seat became known as "The Woman's Seat" for the several 
14women who filled it; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Senator Hickey was a member of the "Crazy-8", a 
16group of eight senators known to act independently from the 
17rest of the Senate; and
  
 
  
18    WHEREAS, Senator Hickey was an extraordinary person; she 
19was close to her family, close to her community, and a 
20respected State Senator; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL 
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
3former Illinois State Senator Vivian Hickey, and extend our 
4sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew 
5and loved her; and be it further
  
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
7presented to  the family of  Senator Hickey as an expression of 
8our deepest sympathy.
