SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Geraldine Kelly Keirnan of Waukegan, who
4passed away on April 4, 2016 at the age of 93; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Geraldine Keirnan was the oldest daughter of Ellen
6F. and John J. Kelly; she also raised her eight brothers and
7sisters and truly cared for them throughout their lifetimes;
8she married Thomas S. Keirnan in 1944; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Geraldine Keirnan graduated from Holy Child High
10School and then traveled the country during World War II
11performing as part of the Kelly Sisters; she and her sisters,
12Frances Kelly and Jane Kelly Kennedy, entertained the troops at
13all of the continental United States Army bases during the war
14as part of the USO tours; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Geraldine Keirnan was involved in the community
16and proud of her work on the Board of the Lake County Museum
17during its formative years; she was a dedicated officer of the
18Ex Libris Book Club and became its Historian, maintaining
19membership records and organizing the annual Book Club
20Christmas programs at Glen Flora Country Club; she was also a
21golfer and bridge player; and

1    WHEREAS, Geraldine Keirnan was preceded in death by her
2husband, Thomas, and her siblings, Thomas Kelly, Frances Kelly,
3Jane Kennedy, Marjorie Huffine, Mary Lou Karasak, Dorothy
4Durka, and Dr. John Kelly and their spouses; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Geraldine Keirnan is survived by her children,
6Ellen Louise (Bill Noth) Keirnan, Janine Elizabeth Keirnan, and
7Patrick (Ana) Keirnan; her grandchildren, Thomas Michael
8(Marice) Keirnan, Kelly Monica Keirnan, and Sean Sebastian
9Keirnan; her sister, Ginger (Bill) Durkin; several cousins,
10including Alice Kelly Mulvaney; her 60 nieces and nephews; Mary
11Ellen (Don) Vanderventer and her sisters, Joanie (Steve)
12Westphal and Carol (Steve) Wolf, and her nephew, Billy Durkin
13(Jen Moore); therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
16family and friends, mourn the passing of Geraldine Kelly
17Keirnan; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Geraldine Keirnan as an expression
20of our sympathy.
