SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Mariclare Barrett of Oak Park, who passed
4away on September 4, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mariclare Barrett was born on July 2, 1951 in
6Berwyn; her parents were Mary and Wendell Barrett; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Mariclare Barrett graduated from Nazareth High
8School and earned her Bachelor of Arts at Michigan State
9University in 1973; in 1978, she became a physician assistant
10through Johns Hopkins University; in 1999, she joined Rosalind
11Franklin University as an assistant professor in the Physician
12Assistant Department and went on to teach a variety of
13subjects, including her favorite, "The Psychosocial Aspects of
14Patient Care", where she taught students to communicate about
15illness and mortality by sharing her own ongoing experience
16with stage-four breast cancer; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Mariclare Barrett was the proud mother of six
18sons; she was a gifted storyteller who loved regaling friends
19with the antics and successes of her boys and her many wild but
20true tales about sideswiping President Bill Clinton's car,
21talking Charlie Trotter into catering a meal at her home, and
22serving vegetarian "ribs" at Mike Royko's annual Ribfest; she

1was also a freelance food writer under the name "Clare Obis"
2for Wednesday Journal in the 1980s and 1990s; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Mariclare Barrett is survived by her sons,
4Nicholas Hanuman, Quentin Barrett, Paul Wendell, Kevin
5Michael, Timothy Edward, and Gregory Patrick; her grandson,
6Yasan; her siblings, Barrie Jean, Terry, Rorie, and Kevin; her
7niece, Emily; her nephews, Nathan and Jesse; her several
8grand-nieces and grand-nephews; her many friends and
9colleagues at Rosalind Franklin and Northwestern Universities
10and St. Vincent Ferrer and St. Edmund Parishes; and her
11girlfriends, "The Crazies", with whom she shared a 35-year
12friendship; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
15family and friends, mourn the passing of Mariclare Barrett; and
16be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Mariclare Barrett as an expression
19of our sympathy.
