SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Shawnte Amiee "Tay" Jones, who passed away on May 4, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Shawnte Jones was born on February 5, 1979 in Decatur; her parents were Janet Hess Jones and Ronald G. Jones; and

WHEREAS, Shawnte Jones graduated from Stephen Decatur High School and Northern Illinois University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Sociology; she later attended the DeVry University Keller Graduate School of Management, where she pursued a master's degree in Public Administration; and

WHEREAS, Shawnte Jones worked as a Registrar Coordinator at DeVry University at Addison Metro, where she was dedicated to her responsibilities and recognized through various awards, including the Ron Taylor Award for Excellence in Performance and Colleague of the Month; and

WHEREAS, Shawnte Jones enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling, and organizing exciting adventures; she led and participated in many community efforts that helped those in need, including blood donation efforts; she enjoyed utilizing social media, cooking unique cuisine, and photography; she was also a huge sports fan, particularly of the Chicago Bears, the New York Giants, and the Kane County Cougars; and

WHEREAS, Shawnte Jones professed a faith in Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Salem Baptist Church in Decatur; and

WHEREAS, Shawnte Jones was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Leonard Hess, and her paternal grandfather, Robert Jones Sr.; and

WHEREAS, Shawnte Jones is survived by her parents; her special aunts, Robyn Hess, Sandra Arnice Hess Moll, and Alesia Jones; her uncles, Robert Jones Jr., Randall Jones, and Troy Compton; her sister, Shanae Cannon; her nephew, Jayden Cannon; her brother, Demarcus Williams; her grandmothers, Eartha L. Taylor Hess and Evelyn Jones; her special cousins, Jessyca Hess and Hunter and Miles Moll; her special friends, Rochelle "Shelly" Taylor, Christine "Chrissy" Ducato, Tammy Fuller, Stephanie Coffman, Brandy Boisen, and Katrinka Elem; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Shawnte Amiee "Tay" Jones; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Shawnte Jones as an expression of our sympathy.
