SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert E. "Bob" Brent of Aurora, who
4passed away on May 5, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Brent was born in Thackeray to Howard and
6Mary Lorene (McChesney) Brent on February 20, 1939; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Robert Brent served with the Aurora Police
8Department for 28 years, including 12 years as Chief of Police;
9during his police career, he received advanced training at the
10University of Louisville, the University of Illinois, and
11Michigan State University; he earned his Bachelor of Law degree
12from LaSalle Extension University of Chicago; he received
13training at the FBI Academy and the U.S. Secret Service
14Academy; he served on the adjunct faculty of Aurora University
15and the Police Training Institute at the University of
16Illinois; while with the Aurora Police Department, he was a
17member of one of the area's first SWAT teams; he served on
18presidential family and candidate protection details, and
19acted as Chief of Detectives before becoming the youngest Chief
20of Police for a city and police department of Aurora's size in
21the country at that time; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Following his retirement from the Aurora Police

1Department in 1989, Robert Brent joined Alarm Detection
2Systems, Inc of Aurora for 15 years as their Director of Public
3Relations; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Robert Brent was an active and dedicated community
5volunteer and leader throughout his entire life; he began
6serving as a Scout leader before he had any children of his
7own, and remained active in Scouting for many years; he was
8especially proud of his involvement in Kiwanis Club; during his
944 years with the Kiwanis Club of Aurora, he served as Club
10President and was Kiwanian of the Year; he was also responsible
11for the creation of the Golden K Kiwanis Club of Aurora; one of
12his proudest professional accomplishments was founding the
13Aurora Area Crime Stoppers; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Robert Brent was a longtime member of the Juvenile
15Protective Association, and an active member in the Illinois
16and International Associations of Chief of Police, along with
17many other professional and law-enforcement organizations; he
18was a committed member of civic organizations, such as the
19Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley, the former Mercy
20Hospital Foundation Board, and other church and civic clubs; he
21was also a member of Holy Angels Church in Aurora; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Robert Brent enjoyed traveling with his wife,
23golf, and fishing, but he loved nothing more than camping with

1his family and friends, especially his grandchildren; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Robert Brent was preceded in death by his parents
3and his sister, Verla Olson; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Robert Brent is survived by his wife of 55 years,
5Janice R. (Rausch); his children, Mark (Kristen) Brent and Ann
6Marie (Joseph) Pawlisz; his grandchildren, Cameron, Robert,
7Courtney, Braden, Morgan, Tyler, and Kylee; his sister, Beverly
8Williams; his brother, Gary Brent; his brother-in-law, Dr.
9Richard Olson; and many loving relatives and friends;
10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Robert E. "Bob" Brent, and extend our sincere condolences to
14his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Robert Brent as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
