2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Cyril John "C.J." Lehnhardt of Coal |
4 | | Valley, who passed away on May 4, 2016; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Cyril Lehnhardt was born in Dubuque, Iowa to |
6 | | Albert Henry and Bertha Clara Bergmann Lehnhardt on November |
7 | | 20, 1923; he graduated from Dubuque Senior High School and, at |
8 | | age 19, entered the United States Army 10th Mountain Division |
9 | | ski troop; during World War II, he was sent to the Po Valley |
10 | | and Apennine Mountains of Northern Italy, where he served not |
11 | | on skis, but on snowshoes; he married Doris Milne in Moline on |
12 | | March 15, 1958; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Cyril Lehnhardt worked for seven years as a |
14 | | pattern-maker in Dubuque and Chicago before being hired at the |
15 | | John Deere Foundry in East Moline, where he worked mainly in |
16 | | the seeding division, creating parts for planters; he was with |
17 | | John Deere for 31 years, retiring in 1986; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Cyril Lehnhardt was a collector of various things, |
19 | | including trains, model tractors, and old switchman lanterns; |
20 | | he was a member of the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club, the |
21 | | Central Electric Rail Fans Association, the Railway and |
22 | | Locomotive Historical Society, and the Antique Engine Tractor |

1 | | Association; he was a charter member of the Two-Cylinder Club |
2 | | (now the Deere Valley Collectors Tractor Club) and the Iowa |
3 | | Chapter National Railroad Historical Society; and |
4 | | WHEREAS, Cyril Lehnhardt was a member of Colona United |
5 | | Methodist Church and Coal Valley Masonic Lodge 547; he was a |
6 | | charter member of the Coal Valley State Bank and the Quad |
7 | | Cities Pattern Maker's Federal Credit Union; he served on the |
8 | | Board of Directors for the Blackhawk State Bank in Milan for 25 |
9 | | years, up to the age of 88; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Cyril Lehnhardt was preceded in death by his wife, |
11 | | Doris; his brothers, Kenneth and Donald Lehnhardt; his sisters, |
12 | | Marcella Luz and Doris Lehnhardt; and his nephews, Wayne |
13 | | Schmidt and Gary Lehnhardt; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Cyril Lehnhardt is survived by his nieces and |
15 | | nephews, Dr. Warren and Carla Schmidt, David Luz, Debbie |
16 | | Arebalo, Shelley and Rod Kirsch, Barbara and Barney Bishop, |
17 | | Richard Lehnhardt, Robert and Carol Lehnhardt, Pamela |
18 | | Beauchamp, Steven and Cindy Sim, and Mary Ann Crimmins; and |
19 | | many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including Diane |
20 | | Beauchamp and Jeraldine Clewell; and a special caregiver, |
21 | | Deborah Chokkalingam; therefore, be it

22 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |

1 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
2 | | Cyril John "C.J." Lehnhardt, and extend our sincere condolences |
3 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be |
4 | | it further

5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
6 | | presented to the family of Cyril Lehnhardt as an expression of |
7 | | our deepest sympathy.
