| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Dale Edwin Burklund of Peoria Heights, |
| 4 | | who passed away on May 3, 2016; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dale Burklund was born on January 6, 1926 in |
| 6 | | Peoria; his parents were Edwin O. and Lucile Burklund; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Dale Burklund graduated from Woodruff High School |
| 8 | | in 1943 and attended Purdue University from 1943 to 1945; he |
| 9 | | later served as a pilot with the United States Army Air Corps |
| 10 | | in Texas and was part of the 2011 Honor Flight; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Dale Burklund was the owner of Burklund |
| 12 | | Distributors, Inc. in East Peoria and served as its Chairman |
| 13 | | and CEO from 1990 until his passing; he was a Founder of the |
| 14 | | Par-A-Dice Riverboat Casino in East Peoria and was the |
| 15 | | organization's President and Chairman from 1990 to 1996; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Dale Burklund was the President of the National |
| 17 | | Candy Wholesalers Association in 1976-1977 and volunteered for |
| 18 | | many other industry endeavors; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Dale Burklund served as a Board Member of the |
| 20 | | Proctor Healthcare Foundation, a Trustee of the Eureka College |
|

| 1 | | Board, a Board Member of the Easter Seals/UCP and a Tribute |
| 2 | | Dinner Honoree, Chairman of the Better Business Bureau, and a |
| 3 | | Campaign Manager for WTVP Capital; he was also a member of the |
| 4 | | First Christian Church of Peoria, the Country Club of Peoria, |
| 5 | | the Illinois Valley Yacht Club, Mohammed Shrine-Temple Lodge |
| 6 | | #40, and the Royal Order of the Jesters; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Dale Burklund was a recipient of the Peoria |
| 8 | | Chamber Tom Connor Award and was proud to have supported the |
| 9 | | Red Cross by donating over 15 gallons of blood over his |
| 10 | | lifetime; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Dale Burklund enjoyed fishing near Minaki, |
| 12 | | Ontario, Canada, rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals, boating, |
| 13 | | and a good cigar; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Dale Burklund was preceded in death by his wife of |
| 15 | | 63 years, Shirley Burklund; and |
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Dale Burklund is survived by his children, Janet |
| 17 | | Singer, Joyce Perino, Jayme (Rob) Hackett, and Jon (Rita) |
| 18 | | Burklund; his grandchildren, Jenn Perino, Frank (Julie) Perino |
| 19 | | II, Sarah (Jesse) McDonald, Rob (Lisa) Hackett II, Steven |
| 20 | | (Marie) Meints, Kelly (Justin) Puent, Corey (Paige) Burklund, |
| 21 | | and Abbi Singer; 13 great-grandchildren, plus another due in |
| 22 | | November of 2016; his sister, Carol Murowchick; and his canine |
|

| 1 | | companion, Happy; therefore, be it

| 2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |
| 3 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his |
| 4 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Dale Edwin Burklund; |
| 5 | | and be it further
|
| 6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 7 | | presented to the family of Dale Burklund as an expression of |
| 8 | | our sympathy.
