| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Maxine V. Kempf of Crystal Lake, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on February 10, 2016; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Maxine Kempf was born in Edmore, North Dakota to | ||||||
| 6 | Carl and Bessie Benson on September 11, 1914; she attended | ||||||
| 7 | Jamestown College in North Dakota on a music scholarship with a | ||||||
| 8 | concentration in English literature and music; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Maxine Kempf began teaching in North Dakota high | ||||||
| 10 | schools as an English and music instructor; following World War | ||||||
| 11 | II, she and her husband, Adolph, moved to Chicago; in 1950, she | ||||||
| 12 | and her husband and their two children moved to Des Plaines and | ||||||
| 13 | then to Crystal Lake, where she lived for 66 years; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Maxine Kempf renewed her teaching career and began | ||||||
| 15 | a 24-year career with the Crystal Lake Public Schools, where | ||||||
| 16 | she taught language arts and developed special expertise in the | ||||||
| 17 | teaching of literacy and reading; she earned a master's degree | ||||||
| 18 | in Reading Education at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb; | ||||||
| 19 | for the last half of her career, she served outside the | ||||||
| 20 | classroom as the Crystal Lake School District Curriculum | ||||||
| 21 | Coordinator and Language Arts Specialist in teacher training, | ||||||
| 22 | diagnostic evaluator of student reading problems, and as an | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | assistant to her lifelong friend, Leon Lundahl, who served as | ||||||
| 2 | school superintendent; she also served as piano accompanist to | ||||||
| 3 | several young school musicians; in addition to her teaching and | ||||||
| 4 | administrative work, she served for a number of years as an | ||||||
| 5 | adjunct professor at the National College of Education in | ||||||
| 6 | Evanston and at Northern Illinois University; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, For 50 years, Maxine Kempf belonged to the Delta | ||||||
| 8 | Kappa Gamma honorary education Society; she was a longtime | ||||||
| 9 | member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association and the PEO | ||||||
| 10 | Sisterhood; she was a 60-year member of the First United | ||||||
| 11 | Methodist Church of Crystal Lake, and when younger, she was the | ||||||
| 12 | church organist and music director; after retirement, she | ||||||
| 13 | served for a number of years as a board member of the Crystal | ||||||
| 14 | Lake YMCA and the American Heart Association; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Maxine Kempf is survived by her two children, Ann | ||||||
| 16 | Dahm and James (Tomoko) Kempf; her four grandchildren, Matthew | ||||||
| 17 | (Christine) Dahm, Mandy Dahm, Kathryn Kempf (Dan) Burke, | ||||||
| 18 | Michael (Emma) Kempf; and her four great-grandchildren, | ||||||
| 19 | Lleyton and Caroline Dahm and Jackson and Dillon Burke; | ||||||
| 20 | therefore, be it

| 21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 22 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 23 | Maxine V. Kempf, and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||

| 1 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
| 2 | further

| 3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
