| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Gregory DeWitt "Pops" Holley Sr. of |
| 4 | | Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who passed away on May 4, 2016; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Gregory Holley Sr. was born in Waukegan to Jack |
| 6 | | and Juanita Holley on January 13, 1946; he graduated from North |
| 7 | | Chicago High School and attended Lutheran College in Iowa on a |
| 8 | | 4-year scholarship for football and track; he enlisted in the |
| 9 | | United States Army on January 3, 1966 and served with the 4th |
| 10 | | Infantry Division based in Ft. Carson, Colorado; he received an |
| 11 | | honorable discharge on December 15, 1967 and was awarded the |
| 12 | | National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with |
| 13 | | Device, and the Vietnam Service Medal; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Gregory Holley Sr. was an active member of |
| 15 | | Wisconsin's American Legion Post 455 and was a proud veteran |
| 16 | | who loved his country and its flag; he enjoyed spending time |
| 17 | | with his grandsons, visiting with his mother, sisters, and |
| 18 | | brother, and listening to music and watching sports; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Gregory Holley Sr. was preceded in death by his |
| 20 | | father, Jack Holley; his sister, Laura Etta (Earl) Harris; his |
| 21 | | brothers, Jack Robert Holley, Sterling Holley, and Wayne |
| 22 | | Holley; and his grandson, Brandon Edwards; and
