SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Delbert Blair, who passed away at the age of 82; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Delbert Blair was born on February 13, 1934 in Chicago; his parents were George and Dorothy Blair; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Delbert Blair attended Chicago public schools, including Englewood High School, and earned his bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Roosevelt University; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Delbert Blair began his career as a regional salesperson for the Wrigley Gum Company; sensing a different life calling for himself, he began attending lectures on African history and metaphysics; after a meeting with two men while at a conference sponsored by famous astrophysicist Carl Sagan, he decided to devote his time to historical and metaphysical research and began forming and teaching classes throughout Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Delbert Blair lectured throughout the United States and the world; he spoke at many conferences, including "The Meeting of the Masters" in Atlanta, Georgia, and at numerous universities, including the University of Southern California, Penn State University, Michigan State University, the University of Illinois, and Tuskegee University, among many others; he was the recipient of numerous honorary degrees from many of the institutions he visited; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Delbert Blair was a guest speaker on many radio shows throughout the nation, speaking on numerous scientific topics; he also hosted his own show, "Metaphysics Speaks!", where he interviewed many famous subjects, including the Minister Louis Farrakhan, Baba Dick Gregory, Maurice White, and Oscar Brown, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Delbert Blair was preceded in death by his wife, Marsha Ross Blair; his son, Darnell Blair; and his mother; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Delbert Blair is survived by his son, Arvel Blair; his daughter-in-law, Gayla Blair; his grandchildren, Bronson, Nia, and Aja Blair; his stepdaughter, Angela Harris; his grandsons, Marshawn and Markelle Blair; and his ex-wife, Annie Blair Johnson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Dr. Delbert Blair; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Delbert Blair as an expression of our sympathy.
