SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Roger Wallace Spiegler of Des Plaines,
4who passed away on April 23, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Roger Spiegler was born to Walter and Mabel Busse
6Spiegler on January 3, 1924; he graduated from Maine East High
7School in 1942 and served in the United States Army in the 42nd
8Rainbow Division in France and Germany; his division liberated
9Munich and the Dachau concentration camp; he married Elaine
10Partridge in 1947 and graduated from the University of Illinois
11with a degree in marketing in 1949; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Roger Spiegler worked as manager of the men's
13department in Spiegler's Department Store for 40 years and
14later became co-owner; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Roger Spiegler was a lifelong Elk and served as
16Exalted Ruler of the Des Plaines Elks from 1959 to 1960; he was
17also a member of the Lions Club; in 1972, he was selected to be
18on the Board of Directors of the Des Plaines National Bank, and
19in 1974, he was elected as President of the Des Plaines Chamber
20of Commerce; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Roger Spiegler loved the game of golf and played

1well into his 80s; he was a loyal Chicago Cubs, Bears, Bulls,
2and Blackhawks fan; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Roger Spiegler was preceded in death by his wife
4of almost 65 years, Elaine; his parents; his sister, Shirley
5Spiegler Jacobs; his brother, David; and his daughter-in-law,
6Debbie; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Roger Spiegler is survived by his sons, Allan
8(Frances) Jay Spiegler, Glenn Roger Spiegler, and Tracy Lee
9Spiegler; his grandchildren, Lisa, Julian (Liz), Kyle, and
10Susan; his great-grandchildren, La'Nyiah and Serenity; his
11sister-in-law, Gail Spiegler; three nephews; three nieces; and
12seven great-nieces and great-nephews; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Roger Wallace Spiegler, and extend our sincere condolences to
16his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Roger Spiegler as an expression of
20our deepest sympathy.
