SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Peter Ferro, Sr. of Joliet, who passed
4away on May 11, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Peter Ferro, Sr. was born in Joliet to Mary and
6Biaggio Ferro on July 11, 1923; he attended McKinley Grade
7School and Joliet Township High School; after high school, he
8began his construction career as a water boy with
9Powers-Thompson Construction Co.; he served in the United
10States Army as a Staff Sergeant during World War II in Burma,
11where he was a combat engineer, building roads and bridges; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Peter Ferro, Sr. returned home from the war and
13continued his career with Powers-Thompson Construction
14Company; in 1964, he and his brother, Tony Ferro, started and
15operated PT Ferro Construction, which became one of the largest
16construction companies in the region, employing thousands of
17local residents over the years; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Peter Ferro, Sr. was a longtime member of the
19Church of St. Anthony and a longtime supporter of Stone City
20VFW #2199; he helped many individuals, churches, and charities;
21at the age of 70, he retired, taking up golf and fishing and
22spending much of the time in Bonita Springs, Florida; on his

188th birthday, he took the Honor Flight from Chicago to
2Washington D.C., which included visiting the World War II
3Memorial; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Peter Ferro, Sr. was preceded in death by his
5wife, Ruby; his brother and sisters, Tony (Rosella) Ferro, Lena
6(Rolle) Kurth, and Rosie (Leno) Giacomi; and his
7sisters-in-law, Elaine (Bob) Ehrsam and Betty (Don) Hadala; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Peter Ferro, Sr. is survived by his sons and their
9wives, Peter (Sharon Matesi), John (Rebecca Martin), and Jim
10(Ann Keaveney); his grandchildren, Nicholas (Melisa) Ferro,
11Danielle (Jeff) Weiss, Allison (Matt) Marketti, Monica (Ned)
12Grabavoy, Vince Ferro, Doug (Angie)Ferro, Veronica Ferro, and
13Amanda Ferro; 11 great-grandchildren; and his niece, Tavia
14Westbrook; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Peter Ferro, Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to his
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Peter Ferro, Sr. as an expression of
22our deepest sympathy.
