SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gilbert "Gil" Farnham of Huntley, who
4passed away on May 23, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gilbert Farnham was born on May 22, 1933 in
6Freeport; his parents were Benjamin and Mattie Farnham; he
7married Patricia "Pat" Jensen in 1957; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Gilbert Farnham served in the United States Army
9in Germany during the Korean Conflict; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Gilbert Farnham graduated from Freeport High
11School in 1952; he later graduated from Illinois State Normal
12Teachers College in 1959; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Gilbert Farnham taught general science in
14Galesburg and biology at Sycamore High School; he later worked
15at Turner-Cleanweld Industries in Sycamore; he was one of the
16designers of the 1984 Olympic Torch and traveled at the
17beginning of the Olympic Torch Run to see the lighting of the
18cauldron; he retired in 1999 and moved to the new Sun City in
19Huntley in 2000; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Gilbert Farnham was a member of the Huntley

1American Legion, the Sun City Lions, and St. Mary Church, where
2he served as lector; he served on the board of the Sycamore
3Credit Union and was a member of the DeKalb County Management
4Club; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gilbert Farnham was preceded in death by his
6parents and his sister, Shirley; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Gilbert Farnham is survived by his wife, Patricia;
8his children, Tess Farnham, Michael (Kathie) Farnham, Julene
9(Mike) Diaz, and Mark (Heather) Farnham; his grandchildren,
10David, Kristen, Kimberly, Alex, Connor, Hannah, Sophie, and
11Ben; his great-grandchildren, Alexa, McKenzie, Miles,
12Sebastian, and Lucas; and his sister, Beverly Stichter;
13therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
16family and friends, mourn the passing of Gilbert "Gil" Farnham;
17and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Gilbert Farnham as an expression of
20our sympathy.
