SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Sondra Lea Hecox, who passed away on
4March 19, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox was born on August 28, 1936 in
6Clarion, Iowa; her parents were Irvin and Freda Harmon; she
7married Dale Hecox on June 7, 1956; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox attended Iowa State University in
9Ames, Iowa and the American Business Institute; she later
10worked for the City of Iowa City until her husband completed
11his education; they then moved to Oak Park, where she worked as
12Director of Personnel for the Sunbeam Corporation until her
13first daughter was born, at which time she became a housewife;
14they then moved to Elmhurst and then finally to Saint Charles
15in 1988; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox loved the Republican Party and she
17and her husband came to represent all that was best about the
18Grand Old Party; senators, congressmen, and political leaders
19all sought her counsel and approval; she was a tireless
20Republican advocate and volunteer; she was an elected precinct
21committeewoman for Saint Charles Township; she served as
22secretary of the Kane County Republican Women's Organization;

1she served at the Kane County Republican Headquarters for seven
2years helping to organize fundraising events, where her
3attention to detail made every volunteer and voter feel
4special; she and her husband also continued to walk their
5neighborhood at election times when many people their age would
6have retired; and
 
7    WHEREAS, In 2004, Sondra Hecox and her husband were awarded
8President George W. Bush's Crystal Award for their volunteer
9efforts in Kane County; she was voted Kane County Republican of
10the Year in 2004; in 2012, she and her husband were honored
11with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Kane County
12Republican Party; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox loved gardening and landscaping; she
14was a member of the Pottawatomie Garden Club and participated
15in their shows and events; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Sondra Hecox is survived by her loving husband,
17Dale; her daughters, Sharon Grether and Susan Sherman; her
18granddaughter; and her three grandsons; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
21family and friends, mourn the passing of Sondra Lea Hecox; and
22be it further

2presented to the family of Sondra Hecox as an expression of our
3sympathy.
