SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of  Michael A. Markell of Rock Island, who 
4passed away on May 27, 2016; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Michael Markell was born on December 29, 1950 in 
6Ottumwa, Iowa; his parents were Joseph and Margaret Markell; he 
7married Mynda Thorpe on August 24, 1986 in Las Vegas, Nevada; 
8and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Michael Markell served his country proudly in the 
10United States Air Force during the Vietnam era; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Michael Markell was employed at Alcoa for 28 years 
12until his retirement in 2003; he also worked as a mill operator 
13and wage evaluator for United Steel Workers Local 105; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Michael Markell was a member of the Rock Island 
15GROWTH board and United Steel Workers Local 105; he also served 
16as president of the Greenbush Neighbors; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Michael Markell enjoyed gardening and spending 
18time with his family and friends; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Michael Markell was preceded in death by his

1parents and his sister, Josephine; and
  
 
2    WHEREAS, Michael Markell is survived by his wife, Myndie; 
3his mother and father-in-law, Priscilla and Bob Bass; his 
4sisters-in-law, Lisa (Don) Johnson and Ellen (Barry) Leeds; his 
5nieces, Katelyn and Jennifer; his nephews, Kyle and Sean, and 
6his great niece, Allurah; therefore, be it
  
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL 
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his 
9family and friends, mourn the passing of Michael A. Markell; 
10and be it further
  
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
12presented to the family of Michael Markell as an expression of 
13our sympathy.
