SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dickey Ray Mizell of Granite City, who passed away on June 11, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Dickey Mizell was born in Metropolis to Donald O. "Pete" Mizell and Florence C. (Whalen) Dotson on September 20, 1943; he served his country from 1960 to 1962 in the United States Air Force and was united in marriage to Sandra Sue Jeffords on March 22, 1966; he and his family settled in Granite City in 1969; and

WHEREAS, Dickey Mizell worked many years for Mercer-Thomas Mortuaries in Granite City; he served as a Madison County Deputy Coroner; he then went on to work as a Legal Investigator for the Talbert and Mallon Law Firm in Alton and the Williams and Caponi Law Firm in Belleville; and

WHEREAS, Dickey Mizell was a past Governor of the Granite City Moose Lodge 272; he was a former member of the National Association of Legal Investigators, the Granite City Jaycees, and AMVETS; he served as a Granite City Precinct Committeeman; and

WHEREAS, Dickey Mizell enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, playing cards, and playing poker; he was known for his barbecue and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Days of Our Lives; and

WHEREAS, Dickey Mizell was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert J. Mizell; his sister, Mary Helen Medley; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles Leslie Jeffords and Rhudell Jeffords; his brothers-in-law, Berle Parr and Wesley Smithart; his niece, Brenda K. Worthen; and his nephews, Ricky and James Parmer; and

WHEREAS, Dickey Mizell is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sandra; his sons, Tim Mizell and friend, Julie, Don Mizell and wife, Lesa, and Jason Mizell and wife, Jessica; Gary Sellers, who was like a son to him, and wife, Julie; his grandchildren, Noah, Isaiah, Amanda, Jaime, Kayla, Drew, Dillan, Brenna, and Leah; his sisters, Marcia K. Smithart and Stephanie Parr; his daughter-in-law, Debye Mizell; his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Patricia A. and Ellis Reynolds, and Mary E. Mizell and Howard Medley; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dickey Ray Mizell, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dickey Mizell as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
