SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of E. Allan Englehardt of Lake Bluff, who
4passed away on May 9, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Allan Englehardt grew up in the Chicago area and
6graduated from Highland Park High School; he graduated from
7Southern Illinois University Carbondale with a degree in
8aviation; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Allan Englehardt had a long career as a pilot for
10United Airlines; he was a designated pilot examiner for the
11Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) out of the Chicago
12Executive Airport in Wheeling, where he later served as
13Chairman of the Board; he operated his own ground school
14program from 1974 until 1989; he was part of the successful
15lobbying effort to get the FAA to raise the retirement age for
16airline pilots from 60 to 65; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Allan Englehardt stepped down from the Chicago
18Executive Airport in 2013 but remained active at the airport,
19including as a member of its flying club; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Allan Englehardt enjoyed visiting Civil War
21sites, riding his motorcycle, attending live theater and

1operas, and speaking with young people about how to get into
2aviation; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Allan Englehardt was inducted into the Illinois
4Aviation Hall of Fame in 2009, named FAA national, regional,
5and district flight instructor of the year in 1976, and named
6FAA regional and district aviation safety counselor of the year
7in 1990 and 1993; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Allan Englehardt is survived by his wife, Diana;
9his daughter, Tricia Negel; his sons, Tison and Allan Joseph;
10five grandchildren; and his brother, William; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13E. Allan Englehardt, and extend our sincere condolences to his
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Allan Englehardt as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
