SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James Edward Gallagher, who passed away
4on May 18, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Gallagher was born on February 18, 1926; his
6parents were Albert and Catherine Gallagher; he married Mary
7Jean Bure on January 30, 1954; and
 
8    WHEREAS, James Gallagher graduated from Waukegan High
9School; he later attended the Conservatory of Music in Chicago;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, James Gallagher served in the United States Army
12Air Corps during World War II as a radio operator in Iran,
13Turkey, and the Persian Gulf; he was a member of Veterans of
14Foreign Wars #1293 for over 60 years; and
 
15    WHEREAS, James Gallagher was a Local 63 Ironworker, but
16could perform most any trade; he worked in the family business,
17the McKinney Harrington Conveyor Company; in 1966, he
18co-founded the North Chicago Iron Works; and
 
19    WHEREAS, James Gallagher played piano, saxophone, and the
20clarinet, which he called his licorice stick; he played in a

1swing band at local dance halls and supper clubs while in high
2school; and
 
3    WHEREAS, James Gallagher worked with his family at P.A.D.S.
4(Public Action to Deliver Shelter) for 25 years; he was a Third
5Degree Knight of Columbus, Waukegan #731 for over 50 years and
6a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles; he and his
7sons also helped wheelchair-bound veterans to attend the church
8services at the Downey Veterans Hospital; and
 
9    WHEREAS, James Gallagher was a member of St. Anastasia
10Roman Catholic Church for 60 years; he was also a member of the
11Holy Name Society for over 50 years and was a bingo captain for
12many decades; and
 
13    WHEREAS, James Gallagher enjoyed traveling with his family
14on many road trips throughout the world; he enjoyed dancing
15with his wife, especially polkas; he liked anything old and
16American-made, leading to his extensive collection of antique
17radios, cars, and motorcycles; he was also a member of the
18Antique Motorcycle Club, the Henderson Club, and the Antique
19Model T Club; and
 
20    WHEREAS, James Gallagher was preceded in death by his
21beloved wife, Mary Jean; his parents; his brother, Albert; and
22his grandchildren, Thomas, Joseph, and Brianna; and

1    WHEREAS, James Gallagher was the father of James, Mark
2(Darlene), Ruth Ann, Jean Marie (Kurt), Mary Elaine (Michael),
3John (Elaine), Diane Lynn (Andy), and Kate Lynn (Scotty); the
4brother-in-law of John (Dawn) Bure and Ruth Ann (Jack O'Brien);
5the grandfather of Kathy (Ramon), Steven (Cristi),
6Christopher, Sarah (Caleb), Megan (Chris), Kathleen (Brock),
7Christina, James, Daniel, Andrew, Caryn (Alex), Sean, Angelyn,
8Lynsey, Nicholas, Riley, Mikayla, and Curtis; the
9great-grandfather of Xavier, Abel, Ayden, Addison, Cassidy,
10Taylor, Lawrence, Olivia, Christopher, Connor, Cody, and
11Kevin; and the godfather, uncle, cousin, neighbor, and friend
12of many; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
15family and friends, mourn the passing of James Edward
16Gallagher; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of James Gallagher as an expression of
19our sympathy.
