| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Julia J. "Julie" Swanson of St. Charles, |
| 4 | | who passed away on July 4, 2016; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Julia Swanson was born in St. Charles to Anton and |
| 6 | | Anele Montvidos on March 17, 1918; she attended St. Patrick |
| 7 | | Grade School and graduated from St. Charles High School in |
| 8 | | 1936; she was a runner-up in the Miss St. Charles contest in |
| 9 | | her late teens; she married Warner Swanson on September 14, |
| 10 | | 1940; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Julia Swanson and her husband were co-owners of |
| 12 | | Swanee's Tavern in downtown St. Charles in the 1960s; she |
| 13 | | retired from the Illinois Bell Telephone Company; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, After her retirement, Julia Swanson volunteered |
| 15 | | for Literacy Volunteers of America; she was also an active |
| 16 | | member of the St. Charles Historical Society and was the |
| 17 | | recipient of the Heritage Award in 1991; she was very proud of |
| 18 | | her Lithuanian heritage and made the best bacon buns in town; |
| 19 | | she was also an active member of the St. Patrick Women's Club; |
| 20 | | she tirelessly volunteered for parish and school functions; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Julia Swanson was preceded in death by her |
