SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Julia J. "Julie" Swanson of St. Charles,
4who passed away on July 4, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Julia Swanson was born in St. Charles to Anton and
6Anele Montvidos on March 17, 1918; she attended St. Patrick
7Grade School and graduated from St. Charles High School in
81936; she was a runner-up in the Miss St. Charles contest in
9her late teens; she married Warner Swanson on September 14,
101940; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Julia Swanson and her husband were co-owners of
12Swanee's Tavern in downtown St. Charles in the 1960s; she
13retired from the Illinois Bell Telephone Company; and
 
14    WHEREAS, After her retirement, Julia Swanson volunteered
15for Literacy Volunteers of America; she was also an active
16member of the St. Charles Historical Society and was the
17recipient of the Heritage Award in 1991; she was very proud of
18her Lithuanian heritage and made the best bacon buns in town;
19she was also an active member of the St. Patrick Women's Club;
20she tirelessly volunteered for parish and school functions; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Julia Swanson was preceded in death by her

1parents; her husband, Warner; her son, Robert; her infant
2brother, Joseph; and her sisters, Alda Lalli and Alpune
3Schmitt; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Julia Swanson is survived by her children, Steven
5(Ellie) Swanson, Judy (Lee) Provencher, Barbara (Jack)
6Hallberg, and Susan (Tom) Ascher; nine grandchildren; and 10
7great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Julia J. "Julie" Swanson, and extend our sincere condolences to
11her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Julia Swanson as an expression of
15our deepest sympathy.
