SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Roy Carpenter, who passed away on June
426, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Roy Carpenter was born on May 9, 1927 in
6Coulterville; his parents were Don Dillard and Lillie May
7Carpenter; he married Mary Pedersen on July 1, 1956 at the
8First Congregational Church of Moline; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Roy Carpenter served his country in the United
10States Marine Corps in 1945 in Japan; he also served in the
11United States Army in active duty during the Korean War; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Roy Carpenter proudly retired from John Deere Plow
13Planter in 1985 after 34 years of service; after his
14retirement, he enjoyed staying busy and went to work for
15Andalusia Township, plowing snow and repairing roads; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Roy Carpenter and his wife were members of the
17Good SAM Camping Club and enjoyed their adventures together in
18their motorhome as they visited family and camped with friends;
19he was one of the original members of the Antique Engine and
20Tractor Association; he and several other members were honored
21at the organization's 50-year celebration in 2011; he was also

1a member of the Two Cylinder Club and the Fin, Fur, and Feather
2Conservation Club, and looked forward to helping out at the
3fish frys in Illinois City; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Roy Carpenter loved being outdoors and would
5always accept an invitation for a day of fishing; he designed
6his own garage and spent many hours tinkering, listening to the
7old country favorites, and pulling out lawn chairs and enjoying
8a beer while watching the rain through the open garage door
9with a friend or family member; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Roy Carpenter was preceded in death by his wife,
11Mary; his parents; and his brothers, Charles and Reuben; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Roy Carpenter was the father of Nancy (Larry)
13Stimson, Lisa (Bill) Elliott, and Carol (Stuart) Ehlert; the
14grandfather of Hannah (Matt) Hogan, Sarah (Lee) Zeglin, Jordan
15Ehlert, and Aubrey (Brad) Koenig; and the great-grandfather of
16Lucy, Carson, and Wade Koenig and Lincoln and Violet Zeglin;
17and the brother of Marjorie Shipp, George Carpenter, and Irma
18Burrill; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
21family and friends, mourn the passing of Roy Carpenter; and be
22it further

3our sympathy.
