SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Debby Miller, who passed away on July 23, 
42016; and
  
 
  
5    WHEREAS, Debby Miller served as a Schaumburg Township 
6District Library Trustee from 1971 through 2015, holding the 
7offices of library board President, Vice-President/Secretary, 
8and Treasurer; she was an active member of the community and 
9advocate for libraries and intellectual freedom; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Debby Miller held leadership roles in the North 
11Suburban Library System, the Illinois Library Association, the 
12American Library Association, the Association for Library 
13Trustees and Advocates, and the National Library of Education 
14Advisory Committee; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Debby Miller received numerous awards including 
16the Illinois Humanities Council Studs Terkel Humanities 
17Service Award, the Illinois Library Association Intellectual 
18Freedom Award, the American Library Association White House 
19Conference on Libraries Citizen of the Year Award, and an 
20American Library Association Trustee Citation; and
  
 
21    WHEREAS, Debby Miller was a leader in the community and a

1strong voice for literacy and public libraries nationwide; she 
2was also a key player in many community organizations; 
3therefore, be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL 
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
6Debby Miller, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, 
7friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to  the family of  Debby Miller as an expression of our 
10deepest sympathy.
