SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of David Webster of Geneva, who passed away on July 10, 2016; and

WHEREAS, David Webster was born on January 5, 1941 in Boston, Massachusetts; his parents were David and Kathleen Webster; and

WHEREAS, David Webster graduated from Boston English High School in 1958; he earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Physiology from Boston University; and

WHEREAS, David Webster served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 to 1963; and

WHEREAS, David Webster played first singles tennis at Boston University from 1959 to 1962; he played in the Junior Davis Cup second singles and was in a round of 16 finalists at the Junior Wimbledon in England in 1960; he was a U.S. Open qualifier in 1962 and competed in gymnastics at Boston University; he was the all-around winner at the New England Gymnastics Championships in 1961 and a NCAA finalist in 1961; in 1962, he was named a Modern Gymnast Magazine All-American; after college, he served as the strength coach for the Boston Patriots; and

WHEREAS, After moving to Glen Ellyn, David Webster coached and taught at the College of DuPage from 1969 to 1999; he served as the men's and women's tennis and gymnastics coach, assistant football coach, assistant and head hockey coach, interim athletic director, and kinesiology professor; he inspired generations of student athletes and his tennis teams were nationally ranked in the NJCAA Top 12 seven times; he had 128 State champions in both singles and doubles and over 20 All-Americans; as the College of DuPage gymnastics coach, he had 60 national medalists, 300 lifetime wins, and 30 National Champions and All-Americans in 14 years; he was an International Gymnastics Judge, having judged the Olympic trials in 1968 and 1972; he was inducted into the Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 1989; and

WHEREAS, David Webster was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Marion and Donna; and

WHEREAS, David Webster is survived by his wife of 36 years, Barbara Webster; his children, Pamela (Ray) Webster Richardson, Allison (Andy) Webster Stromberg, Elizabeth (Christoph) Groth, and Andrew (Purani) Webster; and his grandchildren, Marena and Nalin Richardson, Isabelle and Tess Stromberg, and Maximillian Groth; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of David Webster; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of David Webster as an expression of our sympathy.
