SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of David Webster of Geneva, who passed away
4on July 10, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, David Webster was born on January 5, 1941 in
6Boston, Massachusetts; his parents were David and Kathleen
7Webster; and
 
8    WHEREAS, David Webster graduated from Boston English High
9School in 1958; he earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of
10Science in Physiology from Boston University; and
 
11    WHEREAS, David Webster served in the United States Marine
12Corps from 1958 to 1963; and
 
13    WHEREAS, David Webster played first singles tennis at
14Boston University from 1959 to 1962; he played in the Junior
15Davis Cup second singles and was in a round of 16 finalists at
16the Junior Wimbledon in England in 1960; he was a U.S. Open
17qualifier in 1962 and competed in gymnastics at Boston
18University; he was the all-around winner at the New England
19Gymnastics Championships in 1961 and a NCAA finalist in 1961;
20in 1962, he was named a Modern Gymnast Magazine All-American;
21after college, he served as the strength coach for the Boston

1Patriots; and
 
2    WHEREAS, After moving to Glen Ellyn, David Webster coached
3and taught at the College of DuPage from 1969 to 1999; he
4served as the men's and women's tennis and gymnastics coach,
5assistant football coach, assistant and head hockey coach,
6interim athletic director, and kinesiology professor; he
7inspired generations of student athletes and his tennis teams
8were nationally ranked in the NJCAA Top 12 seven times; he had
9128 State champions in both singles and doubles and over 20
10All-Americans; as the College of DuPage gymnastics coach, he
11had 60 national medalists, 300 lifetime wins, and 30 National
12Champions and All-Americans in 14 years; he was an
13International Gymnastics Judge, having judged the Olympic
14trials in 1968 and 1972; he was inducted into the Gymnastics
15Hall of Fame in 1989; and
 
16    WHEREAS, David Webster was preceded in death by his parents
17and his sisters, Marion and Donna; and
 
18    WHEREAS, David Webster is survived by his wife of 36 years,
19Barbara Webster; his children, Pamela (Ray) Webster
20Richardson, Allison (Andy) Webster Stromberg, Elizabeth
21(Christoph) Groth, and Andrew (Purani) Webster; and his
22grandchildren, Marena and Nalin Richardson, Isabelle and Tess
23Stromberg, and Maximillian Groth; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
3family and friends, mourn the passing of David Webster; and be
4it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of David Webster as an expression of
7our sympathy.
