SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Donald W. Schroeder of Rock Island, who passed away on July 10, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Donald Schroeder was born on August 28, 1935 in Rock Island; his parents were Wallace and Genevieve R. Timm Schroeder; he married Colette Mortell on December 29, 1955 in Rock Island; and

WHEREAS, Donald Schroeder graduated from Rock Island High School; he served as Director of Public Works for the City of Rock Island for 38 years until his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Donald Schroeder was a veteran of the United States Navy; he was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rock Island and a former member of Allouez Council 658 Knights of Columbus; and

WHEREAS, Donald Schroeder enjoyed playing fast pitch softball and participated in several national championships; he also participated on a slow pitch softball team in the Senior Olympics; his love of sports extended to his coaching basketball at Jordan Catholic School for many years, and attending and coaching his children's and grandchildren's sporting events throughout the years; he was also an avid horseman and enjoyed transporting and showing Percherons in his later years; and

WHEREAS, Donald Schroeder was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Michael W. Schroeder; and

WHEREAS, Donald Schroeder is survived by his wife, Colette; his children, Thomas (Cathy) Schroeder, Anna Johnson, Ed (Cindy) Schroeder, Patrick Schroeder, John (Tara) Schroeder, Kathleen (Matt) Anderson, and Paul (Annette) Schroeder; 20 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Donald W. Schroeder; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Donald Schroeder as an expression of our sympathy.
