SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Frances Gay Bryant of Godfrey, who passed
4away on July 24, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Frances Bryant was born in Miami, Oklahoma to
6Frank and Gladys Pauly on November 26, 1939; she was educated
7in the public schools in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and graduated
8from Lindenwood College in St. Louis, Missouri in 1962; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Frances Bryant worked as Director of Programming
10for KMOX Radio; following her marriage and her move to Alton,
11she devoted her life to her family, her friends, and the many
12organizations she served; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Frances Bryant served consecutively on three
14boards for the Alton Memorial Hospital (Board of Directors,
15Foundation Board, and White Cross Auxiliary Board); her ability
16at creative fundraising was legendary; she also worked with the
17Alton Children's Theater, the Junior League of Greater Alton,
18the Alton Women's Home, the Alton Marketplace, Riverbend Head
19Start and Family Services, and the Alton Community Service
20League; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Frances Bryant was named a Woman of Distinction by

1the Alton YWCA; she was designated by the St. Louis area as a
2Woman of Achievement, in part for her careful administration of
3the Episcopal Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief after
4the great flood of 1993; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Frances Bryant was dedicated to the Episcopal
6Parish of Alton, where she served multiple terms on the Vestry,
7chaired every imaginable committee, was a constant presence in
8the kitchen, and directed the church school and youth group for
9over 25 years; her involvement with Episcopal youth at the
10local level soon drew her into State and national Episcopal
11youth event planning; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Frances Bryant was preceded in death by her
13husband of over 50 years, Bill, and her son, John; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Frances Bryant is survived by her daughter, Meg
15Johnson (Scott Dorris), and her grandsons, Will and Bryant
16Johnson; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Frances Gay Bryant, and extend our sincere condolences to her
20family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
