SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Matthew J. Heffernan of Tinley Park; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Matthew Heffernan graduated from Mount Carmel
5High School in 1964 and attended Fox Business College in 1965;
6he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1966, serving
7in Vietnam; he was honorably discharged in 1968; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Matthew Heffernan was appointed to the Village of
9Tinley Park Board of Trustees in April of 1998; he was elected
10to the board in 2001; he served as Chairman of the Public
11Safety Committee and the Budget and Administration Committee,
12and as Mayor Pro-tem in 2006 and 2007; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Matthew Heffernan served as Co-Chairman of the
14Tinley Park Veterans Commission for several years, as
15Vice-Chairman of the Tinley Park Oktoberfest, and as Chairman
16of the Oktoberfest Parade; he was an active member of St.
17Stephen Deacon and Martyr Church; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Matthew Heffernan's notable accomplishments
19include initiating the Marine Corps Detachment #1217 in Tinley
20Park, where he served as past Commander; he also served as past
21First District Commandant for the State of Illinois Marine

1Corps League and as Vice-Chairman of the Voice of Democracy;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, Matthew Heffernan initiated the Tinley Park seat
4belt ordinance, served on the fire department 100th anniversary
5committee for the implementation and dedication of the fire
6memorial at Zahrocki Plaza, enacted legislation for mutual aid
7between fire departments for helping each other in the event of
8a disaster, and initiated an ordinance establishing a sister
9city relationship between the Village of Tinley Park and the
10town of Mallow, Ireland; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Matthew Heffernan received the Chamber of
12Commerce Outstanding Civic Leader Award in 1996; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Matthew Heffernan was the proud husband of Jenny;
14the proud father of Lisa and Matt; and the extremely proud
15grandfather of Tyler and Nathan; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Matthew J. Heffernan, and extend our sincere condolences to his
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
