SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Donald E. Stephens II of Rosemont, who 
4passed away on August 13, 2016; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Donald Stephens II was the former public safety 
6superintendent of Rosemont and son of the village's founding 
7mayor, Donald E. Stephens; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Donald Stephens II began working for Rosemont in 
91971; he was instrumental in the opening of the Donald E. 
10Stephens Convention Center and the Rosemont Horizon, now known 
11as the Allstate Arena; he had a hand in other municipal 
12buildings and projects, and served as Deputy Mayor in the late 
131980s under his father; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Donald Stephens II  was among the charter members 
15of the public safety department's K9 unit and the third 
16superintendent of public safety in Rosemont's history; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Donald Stephens II retired in 2014 but continued 
18to be active in the police department, serving as Chairman of 
19the police and fire commission; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Donald Stephens II is survived by his wife, Kathy;

1his daughter, Brittany; his son, Rosemont Police Chief Donald 
2E. Stephens III; his son, the Donald E. Stephens Convention 
3Center Executive Director Christopher Stephens; and his 
4brother, Rosemont Mayor Bradley Stephens; therefore, be it
  
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL 
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
7Donald E. Stephens II, and extend our sincere condolences to 
8his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
9further
  
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
11presented to  the family of  Donald Stephens II as an expression 
12of our deepest sympathy.
