SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Christ F. Schwelle of Bloomington, who passed away on August 19, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Christ Schwelle was born on March 7, 1942 in Chicago; his parents were Christian and Victoria Ellinger Schwelle; he married Diane Clever on June 8, 1968 in Charleston; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from Lane Tech High School in Chicago and receiving an associate degree from Wright Junior College, Christ Schwelle earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Eastern Illinois University; and

WHEREAS, Christ Schwelle was a guidance counselor in the Danville public schools for a year before going to Illinois State University in 1968; he held a variety of positions in the student affairs division, including director of Bone Student Center and Braden Auditorium from 1978 to 1999; during his tenure as director, the Braden "Stars on Stage Series" brought major entertainment to the community and space was leased to a bookstore and brand name food operations; and

WHEREAS, Christ Schwelle was president of the ISU Annuitants Association from 2006 to 2010 and continued on the ISUAA Board of Directors after his presidential term expired; following his retirement, he became an active member of the Spring Ridge Homeowners Association Board, the University Club, and the Young Men's Club; he was also a volunteer track official at Illinois State University for more than 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Christ Schwelle was a recipient of the Neil R. Gamsky Quality of Student Life Award and the Administrative/Professional Staff Distinguished Service Award for his contributions to Illinois State University; he was also given the Association of College Unions-International Region 9 Distinguished Service Award for his contributions to that organization; and

WHEREAS, Christ Schwelle was an avid baseball fan and, usually accompanied by his family, had attended games at 35 Major League parks, as well as 24 Minor League parks and spring training sites; and

WHEREAS, Christ Schwelle was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; his sister, Susan F. Schwelle; his stepfather; and his stepsister; and

WHEREAS, Christ Schwelle is survived by his wife, Diane; his daughters, Karen Schwelle and Kim Schwelle; his uncle, John (Sylvia) Ellinger; his aunt, Frances Newberg; and his cousins, Elenore Heinrich, Robert (Renee) Newberg, and Herlinde Yugar; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Christ F. Schwelle; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Christ Schwelle as an expression of our sympathy.
